Diamond Picks – Chicago White Sox vs. Baltimore Orioles

April 23, 2009

The 7 and 6 Chicago White Sox, ranked in the MLB Power Rankings, send left-hander John Danks to the mound on Wednesday night against the surprising Baltimore Orioles.  The Orioles are at .500 with a record of 7 and 7, but even though it’s not a stellar win/loss record, it’s much better than most gamblers expected.  The Orioles are actually 5 and 2 at home including ripping the ChiSox 10 to 3 in the first game of this series on Tuesday night.

The Orioles send pitcher Jeremy Guthrie to the mound.  The recently turned 30 year old has an ERA of 4.32 and an OBP of .359 but he is 2 and 0 on the season with a no decision.

Danks for Chicago is 1 and 0 with a .75 ERA and an OBP of .265.  He does have an ND to his credit on 4/9 but other than that, things have been great for John Danks.

Here is the BetOnline online sportsbook betting line for this game.

Here are a few online wagering trends for this game.

The Chicago White Sox are 4 and 1 in their last 5 games as a favorite on the road.

The Chicago White Sox are 5 and 2 in John Danks’s last 7 starts as a road underdog.

The Baltimore Orioles are 2 and 5 in Jeremy Guthrie’s last 7 starts.

The Baltimore Orioles are 1 and 4 in their last 5 games with umpire Diaz behind home plate.

Every bettor is waiting for the Orioles to begin to lose with regularity.  Betting against a team in baseball is just as effective as betting on a team in baseball.

The Orioles have traditionally been one of he better teams to bet against in MLB.

That shouldn’t change tonight.  The White Sox are playing as if they can repeat in the A.L. Central Division.  It’s too early to tell and there are some good teams in the division, but the White Sox should have no problem getting a victory with pitcher John Danks on the mound.

Baltimore embarrassed them on Tuesday night, but Danks’s numbers say that he keeps the Orioles off of the bases.  That should lead to a victory straight up at -110.

I’m betting Baltimore at -110 in the sportsbook.
