Detroit at Miami – The Once Mighty Pistons
February 24, 2009
D-Wade, Heat, Host No Longer Mighty, Pistons, ‘New-Look’ A.I.
How the night have fallen BetOnline NBA sports betting buffs!
The once-powerful Detroit Pistons (27-27 SU, 20-34 ATS, 22-31 O/U) are a shell of their former selves, having dropped six straight games in the BetOnline Sportsbook and eight of its last 10 overall.
To make matters even worse, (or better, depending on whom you wager on) the Pistons have failed to cover the spread in each of their six consecutive losses and nine of its last 10 contests overall.
The Pistons were spanked by the Cleveland Cavaliers 99-78 as a 9-point road underdog on Sunday while the combined score fell UNDER the posted over/under total (180.5).
Gunner supreme, Allen Iverson, led Detroit with 14 points and reserve forward Walter Herrmann added 13 points in the loss.
The Pistons will face a Miami Heat (29-26 SU, 25-28-2 ATS, 29-25-1 O/U) team that has alternated wins and losses in each of its last seven games and is coming off a dismal 122-99 loss to the Orlando Magic on Sunday despite getting a career-high 50 points from all-star shooting guard Dwyane Wade.
The Heat failed to cover the spread as a 9-point road underdog on Sunday while he combined score went OVER the posted over/under total (191).
Here is a look at the key trends for each team, followed by my in-depth analysis and NBA Free Picks.
- Detroit is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games when playing Miami
- The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Detroit’s last 5 games when playing on the road against Miami

- Miami is 11-3 ATS in its last 14 games when playing Detroit
- Miami is 5-2 ATS in its last 7 games when playing at home against Detroit
NBA Odds:
- Detroit Pistons +4½ -110
- Miami Heat -4½ -110
- Over 182 -110
- Under 182 -110
Analysis: While I saw Detroit’s struggles coming from a mile away after they traded starting point guard Chauncey Billups to the Denver Nuggets for A.I., I like them to snap their six-game losing streak tonight by beating the two-man gang of D-Wade and rookie Michael Beasley for the seventh consecutive game.
Sure, the Pistons are absolutely atrocious now, but their talent level still surpasses the Miami heat’s and with the Pistons now entering serious ‘desperation mode’ as far as the postseason is concerned, I say they not only cover the spread in this contest, but win outright despite being on the road.
NBA Free Picks: Pistons +4½ Points/Over 182 Total Points
