Denver vs Baltimore – NFL Spread Betting

The Baltimore Ravens sit at the top of most NFL power polls after they’ve defeated two of the favorite teams to win the Super Bowl this season.

This Sunday they play host to the Denver Broncos. The Broncos aren’t a favorite to win the Super Bowl they should present a challenge nonetheless.

The odds makers have set the NFL spread betting favoring the Ravens by -7-points. A straight up bet on the underdog Broncos will pay bettors +260 on the moneyline. The game total is set at 39 points.

The Ravens came into the season with huge expectations because the offense was supposed to be on par with the stellar defense. They only managed 10 points against the Jets and then dropped a game to the Bengals. After week 2, the naysayers came out doubting the Ravens lofty expectations but the team rebounded in weeks three and four.

They dumped the Browns in week 3 but it was their 17-14 victory over the then perfect Pittsburgh Steelers. The defense held the Steelers to just 210 offensive yards and they gained 320 yards on offense.

The Ravens will be pressed harder this week as the Steelers were using their third string QB and the Broncos have Kyle Orton under center.

Kyle Orton is having the best year of his career. He’s completing 67.4% of his passes for 1419 yards a game including a 476-yard performance in a losing effort against the Colts.

The Broncos are 2-2 for NFL spread betting fans but both covers came with straight up wins and both ATS losses were SU losses.

What has hurt the Broncos this year is their inability to score in the red zone. They aren’t getting reliable performance on the ground as their top back Knowshon Moreno is struggling with injuries. The Broncos are averaging just 55 yards a game on the ground.

The Broncos defense is in the middle of the pack. According to reports out of Baltimore, Ray Rice is healthy and should get more carries Sunday. If Rice has a bounce back game, the Broncos defense will fold under the added pressure.

These two teams met a year ago with the Ravens winning 30-7 and with the loss, it was the end of the Broncos great start of 2009. The Broncos will be looking for some payback but against the Ravens number one ranked defense against the pass, payback is unlikely.

In the past eight meetings the Ravens are 6-1-1 ATS over the Broncos.

The Broncos will lose this game and based on their season they don’t inspire confidence to back them NFL spread betting.
