Del Mar Racetrack – Best Bet at Del Mar on Saturday, July 24th, Occurs in Race 6
The Eddie Read is the main event on Del Mar’s first Saturday card of their meet, but the best horse betting race might be the preliminary event, the $75,000 Osunitas Stakes for the gals.
The Osunitas is Race 6 on the card. There are more choices to be found in Race 6 at Del Mar on Saturday then there is in Race 8. One of those choices in Race 6 is my Del Mar bet of the day.

pp.6-Fortunia – - 7/2 fair online betting odds
In a wide-open race, why not go for the shipper? Fortunia comes to Del Mar after losing to Wasted Tears by only a neck in the Grade III Ouija Board Handicap. She is 2-2-0 out of 6 lifetime races and the fact that Cash Asmussen, from the training family that is the Asmussens, saddles her should give horseplayers confidence. She also brings her jockey with her, can lay close to a soft pace or come from 7 lengths out of it, and might be classier than the rest of these. She’s the pick.
pp.10-Lilly Fa Pootz – - 4/1 fair online sports betting odds
Lilly Fa Pootz has 2 victories and 3 second place finishes in her last 5 races. Breaking from the 10-hole will not help her cause but she always fires and has 7 lifetime victories. The daughter of Gilded Time figures to track the speed about 2 to 3 lengths off before making her usual run to the finish line. Who knows? Maybe, she gets there first.
pp.8 – Conniption – - 4/1 morning line odds
There appears to be enough speed in this to set up the Simon Callaghan trained Conniption. The daughter of Danehill Dancer has made steady progress since arriving to the states from Great Britain in April. Callaghan has put 3 races into the 3-year-old filly and although she failed miserably in the Grade I American Oaks in her last, finishing 6th and losing by 8 lengths, she is plenty talented enough to handle this field.
Horse Wagering Strategy
This is a wide-open race. That’s why I believe the odds on Fortunia are going to be excellent. I am going to place a big win bet on Fortunia and then play a small exacta keying Fortunia over Lilly Fa Pootz, Conniption, the Jerry Hollendorfer trained U R All That I Am and long shot Value Stream. I will reverse for less.
Good luck!
