December 9th Horse Pick of the Day – Mountaineer Park Race 9

Tuesday night’s are all about Mountaineer Park where some of the most interesting racing in the country occurs. For online betting fans, Mountaineer Park always provides nice overlay online bets.

Why? Because the level of competition is very suspect. Horses betting that don’t do well anywhere else in the nation invariably find themselves battling it out around the Mountaineer Park oval. Overlays are found everywhere!

Lady Montcrest – - 6/1 online betting odds

Lady Montcrest just broke her maiden in her last going the 1 mile and 70 yard distance. Usually trying winners for the first time is a death knell, but I love her chances in this race because she has shown an ability to ration her speed in her last two races. She gets a jockey switch in this but I don’t believe it will hurt at all, it looks like she has finally figured out what this game is all about. One rule when betting low level claimers – - always make your online horse bets on the ones in form. Lady Montcrest is in form.

Gold Crysanthemum – - 3/1 online betting odds

The drop in class from a $10,000 claimer to this $5,000 claimer should really help Gold Crysanthemum. It should also help that she ships over from Woodbine where the racing is usually much better than Mountaineer. The biggest hurdle is that she hasn’t run since June. She has speed and will show it after a long layoff.

Perfect Match – - 2/1 online betting odds

Perfect Match has been perfectly placed for a victory in this race. Then again, can a horse ever be perfectly placed into a $5,000 claimer? The online wagering odds will be atrocious but she can obviously win this and trainer Stacey Cooper is 27% second time off the claim. I like she will break from the one hole where she can save ground but I don’t like how she lacks any real speed. She could easily bounce off of her last. An iffy online horse bet proposition at best.

Wagering Strategy

Lady Montcrest should keep her online horse betting odds which means she is deserving of a win and place bet. I will also use her in an exacta and trifecta box with Perfect Match and Gold Crysanthemum.
