Daily Western Conference NBA Betting Picks – Spurs Host Nuggets
December 22, 2010
The last time these two teams met in NBA betting picks, they pushed each other to the limit and Carmelo Anthony played out of his mind. While most of the angles on the Denver Nuggets have included speculation about the team’s focus, the Nuggets are quietly building a quality streak and Melo continues to step up in big games when he’s needed.
That doesn’t necessarily override the fact that Denver is 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games, but most of those matchups were based on Melo being injured. With him in the lineup, this is certainly a game that Denver can keep close. They did so last time, and only lost because Melo was called for a charging foul on Manu Ginobli. I have never seen a game won on a charging foul in my life (well at least I can’t remember).
Since that loss, Denver has gone on to scrape by the Minnesota Timberwolves, but they’re just two games removed from that glaring loss to San Antonio. You have to imagine that they immediately circled their calendars for the rematch. That’s why this is the biggest tilt in Western Conference NBA betting picks.
Denver Nuggets (16-10) vs. San Antonio Spurs (24-3)
Wednesday, December 22nd — AT&T Center — 8:30pm EST
NBA Betting Line: San Antonio -7.0 (214.0)
Lately, nothing has been able to stop the Spurs. Immersed in a cozy nine game winning streak, the trio of Duncan-Ginobli-Parker has been bolstered by a resurgent Richard Jefferson and the steady evolution of DeJuan Blair. Coaching has as much to do with the success in San Antonio as anything else. During their nine game streak, they’re just 5-4 ATS and haven’t covered in the last two games.

Which is exactly how I envision this game going tonight. If Denver does anything well, it’s play with their foot on the pedal in slugfest type games. San Antonio gets the win, but when Denver is motivated to play well they’re as good as any team in the league so bank on them keeping this game close in NBA betting picks.
NBA Betting Picks – Denver +7.0 (UNDER)
BONUS PICKS!
Utah Jazz -6.0 over MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES
I love this Utah Jazz team on the road, where they’ve gone 8-4-1 ATS this season. Traditionally they’ve struggled in visiting Minnesota, where they’re just 1-5 ATS on the road in the Twin Cities. The Timberwolves have an advantage against teams that primarily use a shallow rotation, and the Jazz are as deep as they get in NBA betting picks. Don’t trust Minnesota tonight to get the cover at home.
New Jersey Nets +8.5 over NEW ORLEANS HORNETS
As much as you might hate the idea of New Jersey protecting your investments tonight, the New Orleans are so much worse in that regard. At just 5-13-2 ATS int heir last 20 games overall, the Hornets have not been a good play in the sportsbook. New Jersey is 3-2 ATS in their last 5 games and wins over Washington, Atlanta and Memphis should give you comfort when they lose this game but cover the points in NBA betting picks.
