Daily NBA Betting Picks – Spurs Visit Celtics Highlighting Eastern Conference
January 6, 2011
If both NBA betting picks juggernauts have their way by the end of the season, this matchup will be a preview of the NBA Finals. In the past, the Spurs have dominated this matchup and are 20-5 SU in their last 25 meetings with the Celtics. A debilitating loss to the Knicks last night, however, might have people thinking otherwise.
San Antonio was outmuscled and outshot in the matchup on the road against New York, and Boston is a notoriously tough venue to play in. You can chalk that game up to an aberration on the NBA betting board. All teams, no matter how good they may be, are permitted to have one whiff especially when travelling.

A loss to Boston would be inexcusable no matter which way you cut it. The Spurs are too well coached and far too experienced to allow a hiccup against the surging Knicks to bother them too much, and victimizing the Celtics in their own building would quickly remedy any worries their NBA betting backers have.
San Antonio Spurs (29-5) vs. Boston Celtics (26-7)
Wednesday, January 5th — TD Banknorth Garden — 7:30pm EST
NBA Betting Line: Boston -2.0 (190.0)
The Celtics remain without their most important player – Kevin Garnett – who is out with a knee strain that will keep him sidelined for at least another week. Boston’s punishing defense has taken a derisive hit, and they were challenged firmly by Minnesota in their last game. They squeaked out a 96-93 victory in that game.
It’s not just Garnett’s absence that has me worried in this game. Historically, Paul Pierce has struggled against San Antonio and is averaging just 11.7 points in his last three matchups against the Spurs. If Garnett isn’t playing, and Pierce can’t get rolling, the Celtics won’t have the leadership to overcome the Spurs.
Predicated on size and toughness, the Boston Celtics have been a troubling bet at home to begin with. They may have Rajon Rondo back in the lineup, but after an embarrassing loss to the Knicks, the Spurs will game plan to contain him, which isn’t too hard considering he’s useless 15+ feet from the basket when it comes to scoring.
I don’t absolutely love the San Antonio Spurs in this game, but this team hasn’t lost a pair of games in a row this season. Despite a big time matchup against Boston, they’re catching them at the right time and are worth a look in NBA betting picks tonight despite being on the road.
Furious NBA Betting Picks – San Antonio +2.0 (OVER)
BONUS PICKS!
ORLANDO MAGIC -12.5 over Milwaukee Bucks
Milwaukee’s 3-4 ATS record in their past 7 games notwithstanding, Orlando is a streaky team that you simply have to be riding right now in NBA betting picks. At 6-0 SU and ATS in their past 6 games, stand comfortably behind Orlando Magic until they run in to Boston in two weeks.
Chicago Bulls -4.0 over NEW JERSEY NETS
The Chicago Bulls are not a great road bet and are just 2-4 ATS in their last 6 games. That’s why a great number against the woeful New Jersey Nets is so damn tempting. The Nets are just 0-5 SU and 1-4 ATS in their past 5 games and this is a matchup nightmare for them until injuries to bench man Jordan Farmar and Troy Murphy resolve themselves. Stay away from New Jersey at all costs in NBA betting picks.
