Daily NBA Betting Picks – Knicks Visit Blazers As Road Dogs

January 12, 2011

The New York Knicks are still recovering from being mauled at the hands of the Lakers in NBA betting picks, and really don’t have a lot of time to lick their wounds as they head up the coast to face the Portland Trail Blazers. While LaMarcus Aldridge continues to grow in to his own element, he’ll have his hands full when he tries to contain Amar’e Stoudemire and the top ranked offense in the entire league. The Knicks still score the most points per game with 107.6 on average.

That means that Portland’s limits will be tested to the maximum tonight. The Blazers rank 9th in the league overall with 94.8 points allowed, but improve that benchmark when they’re playing at home. Portland allows just 92.2 points per game when they’re at the Rose Garden, which is the fifth best home defense in the league.

However, that stingy defense isn’t always complimented by a consistent offense. Without Brandon Roy, the team has struggled to find a semblance of offensive rhythm though Wesley Mathews has filled in very nicely. What has made Portland a troublesome play in NBA betting picks is the fact that the Blazers are actually one of the worst offensive teams in the league, ranking just 24th overall with 95.3 points per game.

New York Knicks (21-15) vs. Portland Trail Blazers (20-18)

Tuesday, January 11th — Rose Garden — 10:00pm EST

NBA Betting Line: Portland -4.0 (203.0)

New York is coming off one of its worst games this year, shooting 36.0 percent from the field and scoring fewer than 90-points for only the second time this year. Granted, that was against the Lakers at STAPLES Center.

Portland’s troubles in NBA betting picks are  strictly about matchups. When the opponent has a team that can challenge Aldridge on the boards, they can’t close out tight games in the fourth quarter which tends to be their mantra at home. Portland is strictly a hit-or-miss bet as they’re just 5-4 ATS in their last 9 games overall.

I like the Knicks too much on the road where they’re 14-5 ATS this season, and considering they’re in a great matchup where they can run the floor and score at will they’re a pretty good take in NBA betting picks tonight.

BONUS PICKS!

ATLANTA HAWKS -6.5 over Milwaukee Bucks

Brandon Jennings is still hurt, Michael Redd is dead to the world and now Andrew Bogus is sick (and not in the good way). The Bucks are also a miserable play when they’re stacked up against Atlanta. They’re just 2-9 SU in their last 11 visits to Philips Arena so ride the Hawks in this game without hesitation.

PHILADELPHIA 76ers -5.0 over Indiana Pacers

Track the Pacers because they’re purely a streak team and right now they’re in a bad one. At just 1-7-1 ATS in their last 9 trips away from home, they’re an absolute no-no in NBA betting picks especially considering that Philadelphia is 9-2 SU in their last 11 games at home.
