Daily NBA Betting Picks – Golden State Rising As They Visit Atlanta Hawks

December 30, 2010

I’m hardly ever abashed about how I design my NBA betting picks, and the fact that I love David Lee so much should tell you where I’m headed in this game. What’s not to like? A hard working, white, power forward who averages a double-double? Yes please. I love this matchup as a fan from the Horford-Lee battle alone.

So while you may be rolling your eyes at me, let me remind you that I understand what my job is and – yes – I take it very seriously. What should encourage you is that Golden State is 3-0 SU and ATS in their last 3 games and are building a steady streak now that Lee’s elbow is back to normal.

The Warriors have been a target team for me in NBA betting picks because I love any team that is willing to let guys like Ellis and Curry shoot until their hands fall off with a gamer like Lee underneath the rim to haul down rebounds. The Knicks and Timberwolves are teams that enjoy that kind of target status in my books, and you’d think that the Hawks would be one of those teams…but they aren’t.

Golden State Warriors (12-18) vs. Atlanta Hawks (20-13)
Wednesday, December 29th — Phillips Arena — 7:00pm EST

NBA Betting Line: Atlanta -6.5 (202.5)

Atlanta has never had a guy that focuses on rebounds largely because they think that Josh Smith and Al Horford can do so without concentrating. It’s true that Horford averages a team leading 9.6 boards per game, but the essence of relying on rebounding depends on the type of shots this team prioritizes.

The Hawks play like a “big” team, but they’re not. Horford is undersized to play down low and while he’s a much better fit in his new power-forward role the rest of the team isn’t very reliable. The Hawks are also 3-6 ATS in their last 9 games and aren’t able to build any type of streak unless it’s a bad one.

Golden State is a much more competitive team than you think and that’s why you can’t sell them short in your NBA betting picks tonight as they get a fantastic point cushion on the road.

BONUS PICKS!

Boston Celtics -6.0 over DETROIT PISTONS
By and large, the Pistons are one of my favorite home bets this year which is weird to say after about four years of complete futility. Clearly, the Pistons are good at home with a 9-6 ATS record, but the Celtics own this team. Boston is 7-3 ATS and 8-2 SU in their last 10 games against Detroit, and the fact remains that Boston is an even better road bet at 10-5 ATS this season.

Miami Heat -4.0 over HOUSTON ROCKETS
The Heat have been blindsided by the oddsmakers despite a terrific record lately. In their past six games, they’re 3-3 ATS despite going 5-1 SU during that same run. But seriously, the Rockets are a terrible team. Miami gets a shortened handicap based on the fact that they played last night but this team is too good to let Houston sneak up on them in NBA betting picks.
