The Oklahoma State Cowboys are now 7-1 and ranked 17th in the BCS Rankings after beating Kansas State 24-14 on the road last week, and although their opponent here, the Baylor Bears, are ranked 21st in the BCS themselves at 7-2, we simply feel that the Cowboys are the better team physically. They’re always tough to beat in Stillwater, especially with Baylor coming off of an emotional road win at Texas.
Keep in mind that the Oklahoma State’s only loss was by 10 points vs. Nebraska, and both those that bet football regularly and casual fans alike will tell your that putting up 41 points vs. the Cornhuskers defense is quite an accomplishment.
For the season, the Cowboys are averaging a whopping 45.2 points and 527.2 yards per game, which leaves them second in the country in total offense behind the Oregon Ducks, who only happen to be the top ranked team in the nation in both the BCS and the polls.
Oklahoma State boasts one of the best quarterbacks in the country in Brandon Weeden, who has already thrown for 2547 yards, which ties him with fellow Oklahoman Landry Jones for second in the country.
As great as Weeden has been, you should always look for offensive balance when you bet football, and the Cowboys get that from a running game that is averaging 183.9 rushing yards per game on 4.9 yards per carry. In fact, it was the running game that keyed the win at Kansas State last week, as Weeden was “held” to 298 passing yards.
That balance can give any defense fits, and Baylor should be no exception. Granted, the Bears are allowing a respectable 23.1 points per game, but they have a bend but don’t break mentality, as demonstrated by the fact that they are allowing 390.3 yards per game. That approach is like playing with fire vs. Oklahoma State though, as the Cowboys are more likely than most to turn all of those yards into points.
Also, the emotional factor is often overlooked by those that bet football, and Baylor does not figure to bring the same defensive intensity this week that they brought to Austin last week when beating the Longhorns for the first time since 1997.
Finally, while we get that Baylor is improved this season, it is difficult to ignore the fact that Oklahoma State has blown them out each of the last four years by an average of +32.0 points per game, with the smallest winning margin being 27 points.
NCAA Football Insider Tip: The balanced Oklahoma State offense is unstoppable for most teams, and the fact that the Baylor defense gives up a ton of yards does not help the Bears’ cause any.
Make sure to take Oklahoma State when you bet football on Saturday as they should win by double-digits.
