Cowboys Attempt to Get Back on Track Versus Da Bears

September 18, 2010

The Dallas Cowboys will attempt to get back on track after their somewhat stunning, some might say stunningly stupid, loss to the Washington Redskins in Week 1. The ‘Boys are the big favorites based on the football betting point spread odds.

Currently, Dallas is at -8 to beat Chicago this coming Sunday. Yes, -8 even though Dallas’ offense was not only putrid during the entire NFL Preseason but also incredibly putrid in Week 1.

Will the ‘Boys get back on track or can Chicago find a way to win one against the football betting online spread?

NFL Betting Lines

Chicago Bears +8 -110 O 41 -110

Dallas Cowboys -8 -110 U 41 -110

The NFL trends explain why the football betting line is so against the Bears in this game.

  • The Dallas Cowboys are 6 and 2 ATS in their last 8 games at home.
  • The Dallas Cowboys are 5 and 1 ATS in their last 6 games after allowing less than 90 yards rushing in their previous game.
  • The Chicago Bears are 1 and 5 ATS in their last 6 games on the road.
  • The Chicago Bears are 3-12-2 ATS in their last 17 games after allowing less than 15 points in their previous game.

The biggest question in determining which team will cover the football betting against the spread odds is to determine whether or not the vaunted Dallas Cowboys’ offense is capable of scoring at least 8 points in this game.

Ouch! Okay, yes, I know Big D Fan that your beloved ‘Boys scored over 8 points not just once, but three times in the NFL Preseason. Dallas actually scored 27 points in the final NFL Preseason game!

Now, that’s offense! I’m being a bit of a snarky jerk, but facts are facts. The Cowboys could muster only 7 points in their loss to Washington last week even though Tony Romo had 282 passing yards. Dallas attempted only 22 rushing attempts. They received 103 yards for their efforts.

Don’t be surprised if the ‘Boys struggles on offense actually continue this week. Their best offensive lineman, Marc Colombo, is questionable for this game. Their left tackle, Doug Free, will be starting for only the second time in a regular season NFL game on Sunday. Dallas has a lot of weapons on offense, but quarterback Romo can’t use those weapons if he’s being pressured or is on his back.

Chicago got lucky last week against the Detroit Lions. Wide receiver Calvin Johnson had control, with two feet planted, inbounds, on his way down in that game. If the refs had gotten it right, Da Bears would be 0 and 1 going into their game against Dallas.

If I’m Chicago, I’m gong to go ahead and take the victory and move on. Forget all about it because a gift shouldn’t be questioned unless it comes in the form of burning in the nether regions. In any case, the Bears, even with the controversial ending to last week’s game, played well in spots.

Chicago blitzed Detroit for 463 total yards last week. They won’t get that many against Dallas, but the ‘Boys aren’t going to shut down their offense either.

When it comes to defense, Da Bears were mighty offensive to Detroit’s quarterback, Matthew Stafford. They knocked Stafford out of the game. They also held Detroit to 168 total yards. 20 of those yards came on the ground. Chicago, with what is still a mighty fine front 7, could exploit Dallas’ weaknesses along the O-Line and get to Romo in a hurry.

The Bears aren’t a bad football team while the Cowboys are struggling along their offensive line. That means that Chicago not only has a shot to cover the football betting expert odds spread, but they also have a shot to win this game outright.

Giving up 8 points to this Chicago team makes no sense. It especially makes no sense when the team giving up the points is the Dallas Cowboys who didn’t show anything last week to lead me to believe that they are remotely close to being the best team in their division much less the entire NFC.

The football betting latest lines have Chicago at +8 in the sportsbook. I like them to cover that spread.
