New England (1-0 SU, 1-0 ATS, 1-0 O/U)
New York (0-1 SU, 0-1 ATS, 0-1 O/U)

Here is a look at the key head-to-head trends surrounding this AFC East thriller.

  • Patriots are 10-1 ATS in their last 11 meetings in New York.
  • Under is 3-1-1 in the last 5 meetings.
  • Patriots are 10-4-1 ATS in their last 15 meetings. Favorite is 9-4-1 ATS in their last 14 meetings.
  • Road team is 19-7-1 ATS in their last 27 meetings.

New England 411

  • Patriots are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games in Week 2.
  • Patriots are 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall.

The Patriots jumped all over the Cincinnati Bengals in their regular season opener last week, outscoring their opponents 24-3 in the first half en route to a convincing 38-24 win. The Pats got a fine performance from three-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady who completed 25 of 35 passes for 258 yards and three touchdowns.

Veteran wide receiver Wes Welker made a more than triumphant return from his torn ACL in 2009 to rack up 8 catches for 64 yards and two scores.

The Pats easily covered the game’s handicapping football spread in the BetOnline Football Sportsbook for avid NFL gamblers as a 5-pint home favorite while the final scored flew Over the game’s O/U Total.

New York 411

  • Jets are 4-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
  • Jets are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games in September.

The Jets certainly didn’t generate much offense in what turned out to be a 10-9 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Monday night as second-year quarterback Mark Sanchez completed 10 of 21 passes for a measly 74 yards with no TDs and no interceptions in their big-time defensive battle.

New York failed to cover the pro football spread as a 1.5-point home favorite while the game’s 19 combined points played well Under the 36.5-point O/U total.

Hall of Fame-bound running back LaDainian Tomlinson rushed for 62 yards on 11 carries in his first regular season game with the Jets.

Analysis: Everyone’s excited about this contest – and rightfully so with these two teams having an intense dislike .. okay, hatred … for one another.

Still, I’ve got the feeling that this game isn’t going to be as much of a contest as many pople expect – and I’ll explain why.

While the Jets undoubtedly have one of the very best defenses in all of football, I still expect the New England Patriots and their efficient offense to score their share of points, though certainly not the 38-point spanking they handed the Bengals in Week 1, but let’s say, somewhere in the neighborhood of 21 points.

Did You Know the New England Patriots have won 12 of the last 15 meetings against the New York Jets?

That’s puts the onus on the Jets to score 21 points at the very least at possibly more. Now, maybe it’s me, but I just don’t see New York being able to score 21 points right now – unless they get some serious help from their defense.

From where I stand (and I wrote this in the preseason) I really believe that second-year quarterback Mark Sanchez has not improved one iota since the end of last season.

While Sanchez posted respectable numbers during the preseason – and is a guy I really like – by no means did he show one bit of the ‘wow’ factor of some of the game’s other young quarterbacks and seems more content to ‘operate’ an offense than to actually ‘lead’ one if you know what I mean NFL bettors.

Now, were the Jets voracious defense going up against a lesser accompilshed quarterback than Tom Brdy, then I’d ay they have a shot of winning this game. However, I just don’t see Tom Brady making many mistakes

I also like the way the Patriots’ defense shut down the Bengals in the first half when the game really mattered before giving up some mostly meaningless second half points and I believe they are going to give Sanchez all he can handle en route to a solid win and ATS football spread cover as a 3-point road favorite.

Lest anyone forget, the Patriots pounded the Jets unmercifully the last time the two teams met, winning 31-14 on Nov. 22 of last season.

I like the Patriots to cash in and the Under to play out for the fourth time in the last six meetings bewteen the AFC rivals.
