Cool Jazz vs. Hot Heat, Lakers vs. Clippers and Spurs in NBA Betting Action
December 8, 2010
The Miami Heat, having finally gelled, are 5 and 0 both straight up and against the basketball betting spread in their last 5 games going into their contest versus the Utah Jazz on Wednesday, Dec. 8th.
But Miami vs. Utah isn’t the only interesting game on Wednesday night. The defending champions Los Angeles Lakers take on the Los Angeles Clippers and the San Antonio Spurs are in action versus the Golden State Warriors.

Dec. 8th – NBA Games
Golden State Warriors at San Antonio Spurs
Where: AT&T Center, San Antonio, Texas
When: 8:30 pm EST
NBA Odds: San Antonio -10 ½
Analysis: 10 ½ seems like a lot of points to cover in the NBA sportsbook, but the San Antonio Spurs are simply the best team in the NBA right now. The Spurs are 17 and 3 straight up and an awesome 12-7-1 ATS. San Antonio is 4 and 0 against the spread in their last 4 games as a fave of 5 to 10 ½ points. They also own the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors are 0 and 5 against the spread in the last 5 meetings between these 2 teams and 1 and 6 ATS in the last 7 meetings between these 2 in San Antonio. The Warriors are coming off of a tough 100 to 105 loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday night. Now, they take on a well-rested San Antonio team that is averaging 106.7 points per game while holding their opponents to under 100. I don’t believe the Warriors will have the energy to keep up with the Spurs in this contest.
Miami Heat at Utah Jazz
Where: EnergySolutions Arena, Salt Lake City, Utah
When: 9:00 pm EST
NBA Odds: Utah -1
Analysis: Wow. Sports betting fans are all over the Heat now that they’re on that very good winning streak. 63% of basketball handicappers are backing the Heat in this game to cover the spread even though the home team, the Utah Jazz, have the better 16 and 6 record as opposed to Miami’s 14 and 8 record. Miami has won 5 games in a row both straight up and against the spread but those 5 victories occurred versus Washington, Detroit, Cleveland, Atlanta and Milwaukee and 3 of the 5 games occurred in Miami. Utah is holding teams to 42.9% from the field, that’s #1 in the NBA, and 30.2% from behind the arc, that too is #1 in the NBA. Utah is 13-8-1 against the spread this season. The fact that they are 0 and 2 ATS in their last 2 games gives me hope that they are due to bounce out of their funk and take it to a Heat team that has been over-hyped lately because they’ve looked great against inferior competition.
Los Angeles Lakers at Los Angeles Clippers
Where: Rose Garden, Portland, Oregon
When: 10:00 pm EST
NBA Odds: Lakers -8
Analysis: The Lakers aren’t a great team against the NBA odds spread. Kobe and Co. is only 10 and 11 ATS this season. They’re 5 and 7 against the spread at home and have gone 1 and 6 ATS in their last 7 games, but the Clippers just aren’t as good as the Lakers. Yes, L.A.’s junior varsity team has one of the best young players in the NBA in Blake Griffin, but Griffin won’t be able to score at will against Ron Artest and Pau Gasol should dominate the paint. Kobe Bryant, Derek Fisher and Steve Blake will keep Clipper guard Eric Gordon from keeping the JV squad in this game. I have to take the Lakers to simply outrun and outscore the overmatched Clippers in this contest.
