Colts Superbowl MVP Candidates

February 7, 2010

The Colts are definitive favorites in what’s shaping up to be one of the most difficult Super bowl odds to really decipher. What won’t be so hard, however, is determining the MVP in prop Super bowl betting. Peyton Manning is the clear cut favorite in the sportsbook at -105 and if the Colts win, you have to imagine that the gushing love-fest over Manning will come to a climax with some extra hardware in the form of the MVP. But can anyone else steal the spotlight away?

Somehow, Joseph Addai snuck in to the Super bowl props with +800 odds and nothing about that makes sense. While he may have had a ten touchdown season, Addai didn’t even breach the 100-yard plateau once this season. In the playoffs he’s been held out of the endzone and has one fumble. Donald Brown at +1600 has more chance of satisfying your prop Superbowl bets.

If anyone on the Colts is going to wrestle the MVP award away from Peyton, it’s going to be a receiver. Reggie Wayne’s +1000 odds of winning the award are going to be stymied by Darren Sharper. Dallas Clark at +1400 is a sure handed target, but nobody has ever pegged Clark as a game changer. Little known Austin Collie and Pierre Garcon stand as the best outside shots, most notably because they’ll be matched up against mediocre corners from the Saints. Santonio Holmes rose from obscurity to become the Superbowl hero last year, so what’s to say that Garcon can’t?

Whomever it is, the only way anyone on the Colts wins this award is if they overcome the Superbowl odds and defeat the New Orleans Saints. And if they do, you can bet that Peyton Manning will win the MVP award. Don’t be scared to take your shots though. If the betting on this game is proving anything, it’s that the whole game is wide open.
