College Hoops Weekend Preview – 2 Game Parlay
December 27, 2009
The college kids have a short break for the holidays before heading back to the hardwood this weekend. There are a couple of notable matchups highlighting the college basketball betting schedule. Here’s a look at two of the top games:
West Virginia Mountaineers at Seton Hall Pirates
West Virginia has a tough matchup with Ole Miss before opening Big East play against the Pirates. The Mountaineers escaped a near upset to Cleveland State last weekend, squeaking out an 80-78 win as 15.5-point favorites. Bob Huggins’ defense, which is allowing only 58 points per game, buckled in the second half, giving up 45 points to the Vikings.
The Pirates are hoping to catch West Virginia in a classic letdown spot. Seton Hall has proven it’s ready to compete in the Big East conference this season, starting the year with a 9-1 record (2-2 against the college basketball pointspreads). Seton Hall hasn’t defeated the Mountaineers since back in 2006, losing the last three meetings by an average of 19 points. The Pirates are just 1-2 ATS in that span.
Iona Gaels at Connecticut Huskies
The Huskies got a bit of a scare against the Maine Black Bears earlier this week. The teams were tied 26-26 at halftime before UConn poured it on in the second half, outscoring the Black Bears 45-28. That second-half push was led by star guard Andre Dyson, who scored 22 of his 27 points in the final frame. The Huskies were slow out of the gate for the second straight game, hitting just six of their first 16 field goal attempts.
Iona is beginning to pick up steam after winning three straight contests. The Gaels took out Big East foe Providence two weeks ago and are coming off a 75-62 thrashing of Albany. Iona leaned on its outside shooting in the second half and finished with nine 3-pointers on the day. Two of those treys came from Scott Machado, who led the team with 14 points. The Gaels are coming off a look-ahead game against Fairleigh Dickinson on Wednesday.
