Here are some of the college hoops trends that are related to betting on this game:

  • Louisville has won five of its last seven games SU
  • Louisville has covered one of its last five games
  • Louisville has covered two of its last six games
  • Louisville has lost four of its last six road games SU
  • UConn has won its last six games SU
  • UConn has played four of its last five games UNDER the total
  • UConn has played four of its last five home games UNDER the total

At some point Jim Calhoun must have sat down with guard Kemba Walker and explained to him that there were four other players wearing the same color uniform. Walker, one of those hotshot playground guys who thought it was all about him, got off as the top scorer in college basketball in the early going, and UConn won its first ten games (with a 4-0 ATS record in college hoops betting during that time).

But Calhoun must have realized that the Huskies weren’t going to get that far in the end with such a one-dimensional offense, and so he has had him spreading it around a little more. In six of the last seven games, Walker has scored below his season’s average, but his assist have gone up and other players are getting involved.

Jeremy Lamb had 24 points as the Huskies came back from a deficit to beat Marquette in Tuesday, and we’re starting to see more of what Shabazz Napier can do. UConn has a front line that can be imposing; Alex Oriakhi had 21 rebounds (ten on the offensive end) against Texas, and they have more blocked shots than anyone.

These are the head-to-head trends involving college hoops betting:

  • Louisville is 5-1-1 ATS in the last seven meetings
  • Louisville has won four of the last six meetings SU
  • UConn has had the rebounding edge in each of the last four meetings
  • Louisville has made more three-pointers in six of the last seven meetings

Louisville has not had a lot of experience traveling into hostile territory. In its two trips against respectable opposition, the Cards have dropped a 14-point decision at Villanova, and lost as a five-point favorite in the college hoops odds to Providence, a team that Rick Pitino usually has his way with (being the last guy to take that team to the Final Four).

You certainly can’t argue that the Huskies aren’t battle-tested, with wins over Texas, Villanova, Tennessee and Marquette since the new year. Louisville simply can’t match up with the UConn bigs, and so we don’t mind laying a decent number here in the college hoops odds.
