College Football Week 5 Expert Picks

September 29, 2009

The Oregon Ducks crushed the California Golden Bears in the biggest upset in week four of College Football action.

This week I’m looking forward to see the LSU vs. Georgia matchup. This is the game of the week without question.

College Football betting fans, here are my expert betting picks for week 5.

Friday October 2, 2009

Utah State at (20) Brigham Young at 9:00 PM ET, at LaVell Edwards Stadium

Utah State Aggies +24 -110
BUY Cougars -24 -110

The Cougars look to maintain their recent dominance of Utah State on Friday night in Provo. Utah turned the ball over three times in the win over Southern Utah last week; if they want to have a shot in this game they must play mistake free football.

My pick: The Cougars will cover the spread.

Saturday October 3, 2009

Arkansas State vs. (13) Iowa at 12:05 PM ET, at Kinnick Stadium

Arkansas State Indians +21 -110
Iowa Hawkeyes -21 -110

There is not much to analyze here, Iowa will remain undefeated one more week.

My pick: Iowa won’t cover the spread.

(3) Alabama at Kentucky, at 12:20 PM ET Commonwealth Stadium

Alabama Crimson Tide -16 -110
Kentucky Wildcats +16 -110

Alabama’s defense is the real deal. They held Arkansas to 254 total yards. Though luck for the Wildcats after failing against the Gators last week, now they’ll face another national title contender.

My pick: Alabama will cover the spread.

(4) LSU at Georgia, at 3:30 PM ET, at Sanford Stadium

LSU Tigers +3 -110
Georgia Bulldogs -3 -110

Neither of these two teams impressed me last week. However Georgia’s defense looked better against Arizona State than on the games before. In addition LSU was outgained by Mississippi State in total yards and could end up being the same story against Georgia. The Bulldog has won the last 3 matchups against the Tigers.

My pick: Bulldogs won’t cover the spread.

UCLA vs. Stanford at 3:30 PM ET at Stanford Stadium

UCLA Bruins +5 -110
Stanford Cardinal -5 -110

Stanford RB Toby Gerhart ran for a career-high 200 yards and a touchdown, simply unstoppable in the victory 34-14 over Washington. UCLA are undefeated in three games including a victory in Tennessee. This could be a close game but UCLA will steal a win in Cardinal’s territory.

My pick: UCLA

(9) Ohio State vs. Indiana at 7:00 PM ET, at Memorial Stadium

Ohio State Buckeyes -17 -110
Indiana Hoosiers +17 -110

QB Terrelle Pryor had his first game in the season without throwing an interception in the Buckeyes win 30-0 against Illinois. Indiana allowed 15 points in the last quarter in the loss 36-33 against Michigan. The important part is that the Hoosiers can pressure the QB and we all know how Pryor performance under pressure is.

My pick: Upset by the Hoosiers.

(7)USC at (24) California, at 8:00 PM ET, at Memorial Stadium

LSU Tigers -5 -110
California Golden Bears +5 -110

If the Golden Bears want to upset the Trojans then Heisman candidate RB Jahvid Best must forget about last weekend performance and played like he did at the beginning of the season. Of course we all know Pete Carroll’s teams perform best in the biggest games.

My pick: USC won’t cover the spread.

Washington State at (16) Oregon at 9:15 PM ET, at Autzen Stadium

Washington State Cougars +32 -110
Oregon Ducks -32–110

Oregon was the big story in week 4 crushing Cal 42-3 with QB Jeremiah Masoli throwing for 253 yards and three touchdowns. The Cougars avoided the USC shutout after Dwight Tardy had a touchdown run with 22 seconds left.

My pick: The ducks will cover the spread.
