College Football Week 3 – UConn Huskies vs. Baylor Bears

September 19, 2009

Saturday, September 19 – 5PM ET

BetOnline College Football Betting Odds: Baylor -10 ½, Total 43 ½

Last year the Baylor Bears travelled to Connecticut as a heavy underdog, playing valiantly, before ultimately falling to UConn 31-28. This year the tables have turned, as Baylor hosts their visitors from the Northeast, this time as a double digit favorite.

For UConn, losses don’t come much tougher than last Saturday at home against North Carolina. Entering the fourth quarter with a 10-0, the Huskies collapsed offensively and defensively, giving up nine points in the final three minutes of the game. With just over a minute to go, the Huskies were called for a holding penalty in the end zone, resulting in a safety, and the final margin of defeat. As they travel to Texas, UConn will again have their hands full (bad pun intended) with one of college football’s elite talents.

If you don’t know Robert Griffin yet, you’re going to get to know him in a hurry. The sophomore quarterback is one of college football’s fastest players, and a former Big XII sprint champion.

Griffin isn’t too bad in the pocket either, as in the Bears season opening victory at Wake Forest, he completed 15 of 24 passes for 136 yards and a touchdown. His defense wasn’t too shabby either, holding their opponents to just 269 yards of total offense.

But as the line in this game continues to creep up, don’t be fooled. UConn’s defense can play, and will be ready for Griffin Saturday.

There’s a reason that North Carolina was held to just 12 points and only 35 yards rushing last week; it’s tough to move the ball on the Huskies. So while Griffin will get his numbers eventually, the speedy UConn defense should be able to keep Baylor’s offense in check for most of this one.

Coming off a bye week, Baylor should be able to pull out a victory Saturday afternoon at home. But as a gambler, make sure to get the last laugh, and take the Huskies to cover the spread.

Aaron’s Pick: UConn + 10 ½
