College Football Week 3 Preview

September 14, 2009

The terrific college football sportsbook gambling continues in Week 3 of the 2009 College Football Season.

Thursday is more than just a warm-up game as two Top 25 ranked teams, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and the Miami Hurricanes, throw down in Florida. The Hurricanes are coming off of a bye week while the Yellow Jackets held on to beat the Clemson Tigers this past Thursday. The winner of this game no doubt will prove to be the toughest challenger to the Virginia Tech Hokies in 2009.

The Hokies, meanwhile, will be favored over the suddenly super tough Nebraska Cornhuskers this Saturday. The Black Shirts of Nebraska, the Cornhusker defense, responded to Coach Bo Pellini’s chastising after the outspoken coach called his defense soft, and destroyed a lesser opponent this past Saturday. Virginia Tech is going to be a very different test for Nebraska as the Hokies have been exceptional so far in 2009.

For online college football betting fans, Nebraska versus Virginia Tech is going to be a tough game to handicap!

Another tough game to find a winner, much less for the NCAA odds makers to create an football betting line on, should be between the Tennessee Volunteers and the Florida Gators. Florida is as good as advertised and a second straight BCS Championship is not out of the question while Tennessee is smarting after a late fourth quarter loss to the UCLA Bruins.

Tennessee is much different in 2009 than they were in 2008 when Florida walked all over them. The Volunteers have a new attitude and a new coach. Make no mistake, the Gators are a superior team to Tennessee, but the Volunteers will be playing with toughness and heart this Saturday against their top rivals.

USC gets a break after beating Ohio State on the road this past Saturday. The Trojans didn’t cover the spread and might have a tough time covering the spread this week against a better than expected Washington Huskies team. The Trojans need to stay focused because losing to the Huskies after destroying a Top 10 team is something they’ve done in the past.

Here some other potentially terrific match ups:

BYU hosts Florida State in a game they should win and would go a long way in proving to any of their doubters, even though there shouldn’t be any, that the Cougars a seriously good Top 10 team.

Two undefeated and unranked teams, the Arizona Wildcats and the Iowa Hawkeyes go at it this Saturday. Arizona will be trying to remind everyone that there is a team from Arizona that can challenge USC and it’s not the one with the cartoon character Sun Devil on the helmet. Iowa will be trying to get back into the Top 25 after playing terribly in Week 1 of the NCAA season. Either team could make a mark in this game.
