When it comes time to bet on college football for Week 9, there is no more surprising team than the Michigan State Spartans, who enter this one as the only undefeated team in the Big Ten. They are coming off an incredible, improbable, come from behind road win at Northwestern.

The Spartans boast one of the most balanced offenses in college football, with the hard running of Edwin Baker and LeVion Bell, and the passing of Kirk Cousins.

The quarterback Cousins could be on his way to All-Big Ten honors, thanks to his 66 percent completion rate and 14 touchdowns, while Bell and Baker are each averaging over six yards per carry, and have combined for 15 touchdowns.

However, this running attack hasn’t seen a defense quite like what the Hawkeyes will bring to Kinnick Stadium Saturday. Iowa is No. 8 in the country in rushing defense, allowing just 92 yards on the ground per game.

And in the end, that defense will be the difference. Michigan State may have the better record, but they just won their first game outside the state’s borders this past Saturday, and struggled in doing so. In their most hostile environment of the year, look for the Spartans to struggle, and for Iowa’s defense to come through.

The NCAAF Picks and Previews for Week 9 are clear. Iowa needs to be one of your selections.

No. 6 Missouri Tigers at No. 14 Nebraska Cornhuskers
Saturday, October 30: 3:30 p.m. ABC

College Football Week 9 Odds:

Missouri (7-0 SU, 5-2 ATS) +7
Nebraska (6-1 SU, 3-3-1 ATS) -7

There is a new darling in the college football betting world, and that’s Missouri after they knocked off No. 1 last Saturday. But as we get set for the NCAAF Picks and Previews for Week 9, should the Tigers again be your pick?

Duplicating their success won’t be easy, against this tough Nebraska defense. While this isn’t a quintessential Cornhuskers squad, the talent is there; they rank No. 17 in scoring defense nationally.

However, it’s important to note that this unit was exposed last weekend, when they had to hold on to beat Oklahoma State, giving up 41 points in the process.

On the opposite sideline, this will be the toughest challenge yet for Missouri’s star quarterback Blaine Gabbert and the rest of the squad. It will be especially difficult traveling to Lincoln, and taking on this high-scoring Nebraska offense.

For all the talk about the Cornhuskers defensive unit, this offense looks completely different than last year, thanks to quarterback Taylor Martinez. T-Magic has already thrown for 1,000 yards, and also leads the Cornhuskers with 870 yards rushing.

And it’s that offense which will carry the Cornhuskers Saturday.

While these aren’t your father’s Nebraska Cornhuskers, they are skilled and talented, and will put up points on anyone. And with Missouri hitting the road for their toughest test yet, it’s tough to say if they’ll be up for the challenge. Take Nebraska.

No. 2 Oregon Ducks at USC Trojans
Saturday, October 30: 8:00 p.m. ABC

NCAA Football Week 9 Odds:

Oregon (7-0 SU, 5-2 ATS) -7
USC (5-2 SU, 4-3 ATS) +7

The final NCAAF Preview and Picks for Week 9 takes us out to sunny California, where the Oregon Ducks look to continue their assault on Pac-10 defenses, and the national record books.

Oregon comes into this one ranked No. 1 in the country in scoring offense, putting up a staggering 55 points per game, and in the process is averaging 572 yards per contest too, which is also tops in the country.

Their star is running back LaMichael James, who has already rushed for 971 yards on the year, and has two 200 yard games to his credit.

And as good as the Trojans were in a previous lifetime, they simply don’t have the personnel to keep up with this high-flying Oregon attack. Currently their defense ranks just 87th in the country, and it’s hard seeing them being able to make stops against the Ducks.

When it comes to your final NCAAF Preview and Picks, the choice is easy. The Ducks need to be your play.
