College Football Power Poll – BYU and TCU lead the Mountain West

September 22, 2009

BYU’s loss to Florida State crippled the Mountain West’s chances of fielding a national champion. Even though the Cougars are no longer undefeated ATS, check out how BetOnline stacks up the teams in the MWC after a disastrous week of football betting…

1: BYU Cougars (2-1 ATS, 2-1 SU) (LW: 1) Say good-bye to your BCS dreams, BYU. Yes, the Cougars may be able to slip into the BCS by going undefeated from here, but it’s highly unlikely; especially with two mid-majors (TCU and Houston) in front of it in the polls. Regardless, there’s absolutely no excuse for allowing 54 points to a team that only had seven points on the board against an FCS opponent with less than a minute to play the week before.

Up Next: Home vs. Colorado State (-15)

2: TCU Horned Frogs (1-1 ATS, 2-0 SU) (LW: 2) After having one of the best defenses in the nation in 2008, TCU bettors have to be confused with the 35 total points their Horned Frogs surrendered through two games this season. That ‘D’ will be tested next week in Death Valley in what will inevitably be the biggest test of the season to date.

Up Next: Away @ Clemson (+3)

3: Colorado State Rams (1-1 ATS, 3-0 SU) (LW: 5) The Rams pulled off a modest shock of Nevada this week with a 35-20 victory. Is there really any hope for CSU going into Provo next week? A win would sure give it the inside edge to one of the MWC’s bowl bids. Their 88 th ranked pass defense is going to be in for a tough test…

Up Next: Away @ BYU (+15)

4: Air Force Falcons (1-1 ATS, 2-1 SU) (LW: 6) The #1 rushing attack in the land flexed its muscle once again on Saturday afternoon, rolling up a whopping 298 yards on an equally impressive 72 carries in Air Force’s 37-13 road win and cover at New Mexico. Before allowing a meaningless 84-yard touchdown late in the fourth, the Falcons’ ‘D’ was impressive as well, holding the Lobos to just 290 total yards of offense.

Up Next: Home vs. San Diego State (-16.5)

5: UNLV Runnin’ Rebels (1-1 ATS, 2-1 SU) (LW: 3) QB Omar Clayton’s touchdown pass with 0:36 to play allowed the Rebels survive a scare at home against Hawaii. Clayton threw for 340 yards and three touchdowns in the victory, but most disconcerting is the fact that UNLV allowed the Warriors to rack up over 500 yards of offense.

Up Next: Away @ Wyoming (-5.5)

6: Wyoming Cowboys (1-1 ATS, 1-2 SU) (LW: 4) The Cowboys hit a low on the young season when they were completely thrashed in a 24-0 embarrassment against Colorado. This offense is clearly going to struggle all season if it can’t get anything going against the Buffs, and that’s really bad news for a defense that ranks 103 rd in the nation allowing 425.0 yards per game.

Up Next: Home vs. UNLV (+5.5)

And the rest…

7: Utah Utes (0-3 ATS, 2-1 SU) (LW: 7)

8: New Mexico Lobos (0-3 ATS, 0-3 SU) (LW: 8)

9: San Diego State Aztecs (0-3 ATS, 1-2 SU) (LW: 9)
