College Football Point Spread: Michigan vs Iowa
October 10, 2009
The Michigan Wolverines have long been one of the biggest programs in the country, but this particular decade has not been kind to the storied school of Michigan. With a 4-1 SU season in their pockets, the Wolverines lost a big game to Michigan State to kiss their AP Ranking good bye. They can yank it back, but they’ll have to beat Iowa to do so. Though the Wolverines are just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games, they’re 6-2 SU in their last 8 games against the Hawkeyes.
Pressure is mounting for Iowa, who haven’t done this well in nearly 25 seasons. They’re undefeated through five, and haven’t come close to seven since 1985. Putting their undefeated streak up for grabs in a matchup with Michigan is going to be a tough history test for these guys. They haven’t beaten Michigan since 2003.
The biggest win on the Iowa Hawkeyes schedule thus far is against Penn State, a game they won 21-10. Other than that, the competition has been pretty slim. Let’s not forget that his is a team that narrowly beat Arkansas State 24-21, and nearly lost to North Iowa in Week 1.
Michigan Wolverines (4-1) vs. Iowa Hawkeyes (5-0)
Saturday, October 10 th — Kinnick Stadium, Iowa City — 8:05pm EST
NCAAF Betting Line: Iowa -8 (47.5)
Michigan owns this series in the past five years, which is a big reason to go against the home favorites. You’re getting more than a touchdown in favor of the road dog Wolverines, who are putting up 34.0 points per game average with a balanced offense (190.2 yards passing, 197.8 yards rushing). While Iowa’s defense has allowed just 13.4 points per game, those stats are inflated (or deflated, depending on how you see it) by weak matchups.
Bet Michigan to right the wrongs of last weekend and jump back in to the standings as Iowa freefalls from the top-15 with a loss to Michigan. If you don’t like the SU odds, take nice 8-point cushion and hold this game in the UNDER.
Furious Free Pick: Michigan +8 (UNDER)
