College Football Picks – Pitt vs Syracuse

College Football Picks for Week 7 have been rolling in on the Big East home opener for Syracuse as they take on Pittsburgh in what is pretty much a pick’em, with the Panthers going off as a 1-point favourite and the Money Line dead even.

The majority of the money is coming in on Pittsburgh to walk into Orange country and defeat Syracuse as 80% of the football betting population is laying their money with the road team.

Those people are hoping that Pitt plays like the team they thought they had when they started the season with a national ranking, because judging by their record and recent play, they’re not even at .500 for the year. 

Pittsburgh Panthers vs. Syracuse Orange (Carrier Dome – Syracuse, NY)

Syracuse is fresh off a big College Football Pick win as they faced a very good South Florida squad, down in the sunshine state to boot, and beat the bulls by a 13-9 final.  Not many people had them going down into South Florida and winning that game, and it goes to show that this team is far from last year’s squad that only won one conference contest.

On the year they are 4-1 and with a win over Pittsburgh, who knows what they can do in a conference that they are actually leading at the moment thanks to the Big East win over USF.

The Panthers on the other hand are looking at this as a must win contest. It is their first conference game and need to make a statement as they are fresh off yet another loss in a season that was full of high expectations. Notre Dame got the best of them this past weekend, a 23-17 defeat at North Bend, but the Panthers are hoping that a date with an Orange team they have owned the past few years is just the key to snap them out of their funk. Of the past eight meetings between these two clubs, Pitt has won seven of them, including last year’s 37-10 destruction at Heinz Field.

Pitt was able to move the ball last weekend versus Notre Dame, but couldn’t punch it into the endzone when they had the chance, actually failing to even walk away with points on two of four opportunities in the red zone. Although Syracuse proved that their defence is very formidable last week, holding USF to just 9-points, I think that this may be the turnaround game for the Panthers. The biggest breakout is going to be Dion Lewis, who has had a very disappointing sophomore year to date, as I expect him to bust lose and be the difference in this contest.
