College Football Pick – Wake Forest vs Florida State
September 25, 2010
Even though the spread is favoring Florida State by 20-points over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, the College Football Picks are rolling in on the Seminoles. In fact, 78% of people are taking the home team to cover on Saturday, which either gives you an idea of how good Florida State is, or how bad Wake Forest is. Well, it’s actually a little bit of both as Wake Forest doesn’t play defence anymore, giving up 535 total yard to Stanford in a loss and then 487 yards to Duke in a game they actually won.
Florida State bounced back from a shit kicking at the hands of the Sooners in Week 2 to put their own licking on a good BYU team. The Noles did it on both sides of the ball, holding the Cougars to 191 yards while racking up 427 themselves. So with the Noles being able to run it up and the Deacons defence taking the year off, it’s no wonder the College Football Picks are coming in on Florida State.

Wake Forest Demon Deacons vs. Florida State Seminoles

College Football Picks Spread:
Wake Forrest – PS +20 (-110)
Florida State – PS -20 (-110)
Total – 62 ½
Just to give you an idea of the kind of team that Wake Forest has, they gave up 48 points to Duke and still won by 6. We can talk about how poor their defence is, but that’s stating the obvious. They are coming off a 68-24 whopping down in Palo Alto, California at the hands of Stanford, but had a two game winning streak to start the season as they took out Duke and Presbyterian, both wins for me in the College Football Picks.
Where they are having success is running the ball as Wake is averaging 283.7 rushing yards per game, which ranks them seventh in the nation. They already have four different players who have run for more than 100 yards, quarterback Ted Stachitas, running back Josh Harris, quarterback Tanner Price and wide receiver Devon Brown. They’ll need lots of those misdirection plays and quick snaps to keep the Seminoles on their heels, and they’ll need to get the ball outside as they’re no match for Florida States physical defensive line.
That Noles defence has vastly improved against the run from last year as they are surrendering just 82 rushing yards a game after compared to 204.6 yards a year ago. While we’re talking about defence, may as well give you an idea as to just how bad the Deacons have been. They haven’t been able to stop the run, as Stanford torched them for 303 yards on the ground and SIX touchdowns. The passing defence wasn’t much better as they gave up an 11.6 yard per completion average against the Cardinals, and four passing scores.
All in all, they had no idea how to stop anything that Stanford threw at them and have to face another explosive offence in Florida State. It feels weird make a College Football Pick against the Deacons when Florida State is laying such big number, especially considering these two teams were neck and neck as recently as two seasons ago, but times have changed and the Seminoles are going to blow the Deacons out.
College Football Pick: Florida State (-20)
