College Football Odds & Picks – Vanderbilt Hosts Lowly Eastern Michigan
October 9, 2010
The Vanderbilt Commodores are getting huge college football odds against the Eastern Michigan Eagles, despite going 1-3 SU in their last four games. This is a gimme from the schedule makers, and no team deserves a hand out more than Vanderbilt. The question is not whether they’ll win, but if they’ll prevent the Eagles from scoring enough points to close in on the number.
Getting ground in to a fine past by the ranked LSU Tigers gave Vanderbilt little to no steam as they hit the road, though they were able to take advantage of mistake prone Mississippi before losing to Connecticut in back-to-back roadies.

The big play offense of Vanderbilt relies on exposing weaknesses of opposing defenses on less than five-percent of their plays, which is a risky bet when you’re relying on the Commodores to vulture the college football odds. It certainly doesn’t help that Vanderbilt is just 0-5 SU in their last 5 home games and just 1-6 ATS in 7 home stands.
Eastern Michigan won’t pose much of a threat, as they’re just 3-6 ATS in their past 9 games and winless in their past 5 games on the road. But I’d be nervous about the rather large college football odds on this game. After all, Eastern Michigan is fairly good at rushing the ball.
Eastern Michigan Eagles (0-5) vs. Vanderbilt Commodores (1-3)
Saturday, October 9th — Vanderbilt Stadium — 7:00pm EST
College Football Odds: Vanderbilt -26.0 (54)
Eastern Michigan has averaged 126.6 rushing yards per game in five straight losses. If Vanderbilt has proven anything, it’s that they can’t stop the run. They gave up 190 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns on the ground to Jordan Todman of Connecticut, while their offense was left helpless on the sidelines.
Can Vanderbilt’s offense post some big plays on Eastern Michigan? You bet they can. But “can” and “will” are two different words. Vanderbilt has been horrifically inconsistent this season, and those of us that thought they had the maturity and athletes to be a college football odds buster have been sorely disappointed.
For now, Vanderbilt is an absolute “no-no” when it comes to the college football odds, even when they’re playing a winless bunch of scrubs.
