Is there a ranked team that we know less about than the Kansas Jayhawks?
Headed into Week 3, they are currently 2-0, the victories coming in embarrassingly easy fashion against Northern Colorado and at UTEP, by a combined score of 83-10.
The Kansas Jayhawks are led by senior quarterback Todd Reesing, running back Jake Sharp and a stingy run defense that has given up just 78 yards on the ground in their two games. On Saturday, the Duke Blue Devils come to town, looking to improve to 2-1 on the year.
It’s never easy at Duke, but coach David Cutcliffe is doing his best to revitalize one of college football’s worst programs. After a stellar 4-8 campaign a year ago, the Duke Blue Devils were supposed to turn the corner in 2009. But a humbling opening day loss put the breaks on that. While Duke recovered with a win against Army a week ago, they’ve still got a long road ahead.
In this game, expect the Jayhawks offense to go wild. In their two games, the Jayhawks have already amassed over 1100 yards of total offense, including the previously mentioned 83 points in two games.
As for Duke defensively, they struggled last week at Army giving up over 300 yards of total offense including 266 on the ground. To their credit, they held pat, and after an opening touchdown by the opponent, the Blue Devils defense didn’t give up a touchdown until the final, meaningless play of the game.
But with only 236 yards of offense themselves, it’s hard to see Duke staying close in this game.
While the spread is big, 23 ½ points seems like a safe bet for this Kansas offense. Take the Jayhawks to cover Saturday.
