College Football Odds: Cal Bears vs Oregon Ducks

September 26, 2009

Heisman Trophy contender RB Jahvid Best and the 5 point favorites, the California Golden Bears visit the Oregon Ducks Saturday at 3:30 PM ET at Autzen Stadium.

The Cal Bears snaped a four game road losing streak with a 35-21 victory at Minnesota last Saturday. Best finished with 131 yards and 5 TD to hand Minnesota their first loss in its last seven regular season non conference games.

The junior RB Jahvid Best has eight TD (7 on the ground and 1 on the air) in the last three games plus 412 yards, without a doubt he is a Heisman Trophy contender.

"He feels good about what he’s doing," Bears’ coach Jeff Tedford said. "He’s very poised and very confident. He never panics”.

The Ducks have bounced back with two straight wins after losing against Boise State in week 1.

Oregon overcame four turnovers and a terrible performance by QB Jeremiah Masoli to beat (18) Utah 31-24 last week, with RB LaMichael James rushing for a career-high 152 yards and a touchdown.

Still the Ducks might have a hard time running the ball against a hard hitting California defense that has allowed only 187 rushing yards and created seven turnovers and handed out 12 sacks in the first three weeks this season.

College football betting fans should know that the Golden Bears have won three straight over Oregon since a 27-20 loss on, 2005.

I believe the Bears offensive line will open plenty of holes for Best to rush through. He will also be on the receiving end of a few short passes from QB Kevin Riley that turn out into big yard plays.

On the other side Ducks’ QB Jeremiah Masoli has been known to turn the ball over a few times so I don’t see him being able to handle the Bears’ defensive line pressure.

College Football Odds:

California Golden Bears -5 -110
Oregon Ducks +5 -110
O/U 58 -110

My pick: the Golden Bears will cover the spread. Over.
