College Football Odds – SMU Mustangs Hosts Washington State Cougars

September 18, 2010

As expected, the Southern Methodist Mustangs overcame the college football betting lines and thrashed the UAB Blazers, and now get an even bigger spread as they host the Washington State Cougars.

The biggest problem when betting these big spreads in games like these is a lack of information. So let’s get to it.

The Cougars’ comeback victory over Montana State last weekend was a bit of a stunner, especially since they rallied from a 22-7 deficit by the end of the third quarter to score 16 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to win their first game in 11 attempts.

Yep – they’re 1-10 SU in their last 11 games, and they’re also 2-4 ATS in their past 6 games when on the road. Even worse is that they’re winless in their last five road games, which shouldn’t surprise anyone given the other numbers listed.

I started to get an itch about the SMU Mustangs when they cleared the college football odds stacked against them in Week 1 against Texas Tech. The Mustangs lost the game 35-27, but cleared the spread by +5.0 points. Their 28-7 blasting of UAB last weekend also cleared the spread, this time by +10.0.

If you’re looking for a team that could stay under the radar all season and reap some big betting rewards, look no further than the SMU Mustangs.

Washington State Cougars (1-1) vs. Southern Methodist Mustangs (1-1)

Saturday, September 18th — Gerald J. Ford Stadium — 3:30pm EST

College Football Odds: SMU -23.5 (57.5)

Zach Line is the Mustangs’ new star running back after plastering UAB with 122 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns. In the 2010 college football betting season, he’s averaged an astounding 6.9 yards per carry thus far, and also has 6 catches for 49 yards.

So what’s so special about the guy? Well first off, he has all the athleticism and moves of any tailback in Conference USA. The biggest difference is that he’s 235-pounds.

Which means that he’s big and broad enough to maintain SMU’s stingy 6-1 SU record when playing at home. Washington State’s road rushing defense has given up 291.0 yards against this year so look for Line to keep them off balance all day long as SMU rumbles to another victory over the college football odds makers.
