UCF won big in week one by beating South Dakota 38-7, it was the most points they’ve scored in the first game of the season since they beat La. Tech 12 years ago.
UCF is still trying to sort out their quarterback situation but Rob Calabrese may have put a stranglehold on the job after starting week one completing his first nine passes and finishing 12 for 15 with 176 passing yards and a touchdown. His competition for the job had a nice game as well; Jeff Godfrey was a six for seven for 65 yards and a TD pass.
On the ground, Jonathan Davis rushed for 107 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively the Central Florida Golden Knights held South Dakota to just 220 yards and limited the passing game to 104 yards in the air. While it was effective in stopping the team for moving the ball, they didn’t force any turnovers and only managed one sack.
The NC Wolfpack won huge in week one by beating Western Carolina 48-7. Quarterback Russell Wilson completed 21 of 31 passes for 306 yards and threw four touchdown passes.
On the ground, the Wolfpack gained 133 yards and two touchdowns but it was the passing game that was the dominant force in week one.
Defensively the North Carolina State Wolfpack allows a touchdown early but shut down their week one opponent for the rest of the game. They only gave up 189 yards but 87 came on the game’s opening drive. The Wolfpack defense won’t have the luxury to give up an easy score against UCF of they could be playing catch-up for the rest of the game.
Both teams had a fairly easy opponent in week one and in Saturday’s game they represent a bigger challenge for each other. I’m concerned about UCF’s lack of aggression on the defensive side of the ball and that will be the difference in this game. Take the NC State plus the points and if you feel lucky, take the plus money on the Wolfpack moneyline.
NCAAF Betting Pick: North Carolina State Wolfpack +130
