College Football Odds – BYU vs Air Force

September 11, 2010

The BYU Cougars broke into the top 25 of the college football rankings but they will have a tough challenge staying there as they travel to Colorado to take on the Air Force Falcons in the huge Mountain West Conference matchup. The Cougars have won six straight in the series but the odds makers give both teams a 50/50 shot at winning this game.

The College football odds have set this game as pick’em; it will cost bettors $110 to win a $100 on either team in Saturday’s game. The game total is set at 50½ points.

The BYU Cougars employ a unique two-quarterback offense, and in their week one matchup against the Washington Huskies, Riley Nelson had 17 attempts and Jake Heaps had 23, as the duo combined for 24 completions, 262 yards and two touchdowns. It will be interesting to see if BYU coach Bronco Mendenhall sticks with the two-quarterback system, as they get deeper into the season. If I had to pick one, Nelson looks like he could have an advantage if Mendenhall picks one. Nelson tossed both touchdowns and gained another 45 on the ground.

Air Force had a huge outing in week one, as they crushed Northwestern State 65-21 with an insane rushing attack. The Falcons had 17 players with at least one rushing attempt and 6 players score rushing touchdowns.

Defensively, the Falcons gave up three first half touchdowns to the Demons but the second half was all Falcons with the offense scoring six touchdowns and the Demons never threatening.

Head to head the BYU Cougars have owned this series; the Falcons last beat the Cougars back in 2000. The Cougars are 6-0 ATS in their last six games against the Falcons; they were the favorite in five of those games.  In games against other opponents, the Cougars are 6-1 ATS in their past 7 September games but haven’t maintained the momentum lately; they are 0-5 ATS in their last five games after covering the spread the game before.

The Falcons are 4-1 ATS after an ATS loss in their previous game but 1-6 in their past seven games after winning the previous game by 20 or more points.

If you are betting on the total both of these teams have had no trouble going over the total. The over is 7-0 in the last seven Cougars road games against teams with a winning record, while the Falcons have gone over the total in their last six games overall.

In this game, the odds makers have trouble picking and winner and so do I, I’m not picking a side here but I’m taking the Over 50½ points because both teams have enough offensive weapons to put the total in jeopardy.

NCAAF Betting Pick: Air Force Falcons/BYU Cougars Over 50½ Points
