College Football Lines – Nevada vs BYU

The Nevada Wolf Pack has been flirting with the top-25 in the AP and the Coaches’ Poll all season. A quality win over the BYU Cougars this Saturday could be enough to earn them enough votes in the polls to make a breakthrough. The college football lines are predicting a high-scoring close game with the Wolf Pack as slight favorites.

The college football odds makers have set Nevada as -3½-point favorites. A straight up bet on the underdog Cougars will pay bettors +145 on the moneyline. The game total is set at 64 points.

This is Nevada’s first game on the road this season. They won their first three games at home by an average of 30.3 points a game. The biggest win came over the California Golden Bears. Nevada came into the game as 2½-point underdogs but dominated the Bears in a 52-31 win.

The Nevada offense runs through duel-threat quarterback Colin Kaepernick. In three games, Kaepernick has completed 70.4% of his passes for 728 yards and six touchdowns. On the ground, Kaepernick has run for seven touchdowns and gained 369 yards.  He’s on pace to become the first NCAA quarterback to pass for over 2000 and rush for over a 1000 yards.

Kaepernick has help in the backfield with Vai Tua taking the lion’s share of the carries. Tua is averaging 6.2 yards per carry and has 320 yards this season.

The pair’s rushing exploits has helped Nevada to a Number 5 ranking, rushing for 258.3 yards a game.

The BYU Cougars Achilles heel this season has been their inability to stop the run. The team ranks 119th in the nation against the run. They allow 271.7 yards a game.

The Cougars only win this season was against the Washington Huskies in week one. The college football lines had the Cougars as underdogs in their first three. Other than the game one win, they haven’t come close to covering the spread in their past two games.

The college football trends for this game show the Nevada Wolf Pack are 6-0 against the spread in their past six games following a straight up win. The BYU Cougars are just 3-7 ATS in their past ten games at home.

The college football lines on this game seem too good to be true. When you have a top five rushing team against a bottom five rush defense team it can’t be good for the defense.  The combo of Tua and Kaepernick will be too much for the BYU Cougars to handle.
