The Hoosiers come into this game, off a tough 38-10 loss at Ohio State last weekend. In that game, pretty much everything that could go wrong did, with the Buckeyes scoring 31 first half points, before calling off the dogs for the final 30 minutes.
Still, there are reasons for optimism if you’re a Hoosiers fan, and it starts with the big arm of quarterback Ben Chappell. On the year, Chappell has thrown for 1,476 yards and 12 touchdowns, picking apart just about every defense he’s faced so far this year except Ohio State’s.
The senior is completing a staggering 70 percent of his passes, a number which is even more impressive when you factor in that he’s already thrown the ball close to 200 times on the season. Wide receiver Demarlo Belcher leads the Hoosiers with 35 catches this season.
As for Arkansas State, they come to Bloomington, IN looking for respect, and looking to cover this weekend’s college football game lines. They are just 2-4 on the year, but are coming off a quality win at North Texas last weekend.
Like Indiana, the Red Wolves like to get things done through the air, as they rank 24th in the country in passing yardage per game. Their star is quarterback Ryan Aplin, who has thrown for 10 touchdowns on the year.
However, as good as the stats on Aplin look, they are a bit misleading. He hasn’t completed more than 53 percent of his throws in any of Arkansas State’s previous three games, and has also thrown four interceptions in those games as well.
While the Indiana Hoosiers are hardly a Big Ten juggernaut, they’re hardly a pushover either. Make them your Saturday afternoon college football game lines pick.
Other than the Ohio State game, these Hoosiers have actually played really well, and almost upended the Michigan Wolverines the week before they played the Buckeyes.
With Chappell playing pitch and catch with his receivers against a porous Arkansas State offense, he could be in for a big game. The Red Wolves rank just 115th in total defense, allowing 468 yards per game, including 237 allowed through the air.
Ben Chappell will never be in the Heisman Trophy discussion, but when it comes to this weekend, he’ll like a Heisman Trophy winning quarterback.
Take the Indiana Hoosiers in this weekend’s college football lines picks.
