College Football Lines – Army vs Duke

September 25, 2010

The Duke Blue Devils are looking for their first win over a Division I opponent and the college football betting lines have them favored this weekend against the visiting Army Black Knights. The Knights are 2-1 on the season but 1-2 against the spread.

The odds makers have set the college football lines favoring the Blue Devils by -6½ over the Black Knights.

A straight up bet on the underdogs Army to win the game straight up will pay bettors +210 on the moneyline. The game total is set at 57 points.

Duke didn’t stand a chance last week against the Alabama Crimson Tide as they lost 62-13. Their only win this season came against Division II opponent, Elon University 41-27.

Even though they won, giving up 27 points to a Div II team doesn’t bode well for the Blue Devils as the currently rank 118th in the nation, giving up 47.7 points a game. They are 108th against the pass, 111th against the rush and 117th in total yards.

The Army Black Knights offense has been strong this season; rather, their rushing offense has been strong this season. Against North Texas, the Black Knights rushed for 292 yards and three touchdowns in a 24-0 shutout win. Army is averaging 283.7 yards a game this season, which ranks them the number seven in the nation.

The Blue Devils defense can’t focus on stopping a single Black Knight as Army runs a triple option offense and teams aren’t sure where that ball is going to coming from.

Looking at the betting trends for this game, we see the Black Knights are 1-5 in their past 6 September games. The Duke Blue Devils are 4-1-1 in their past six games as a favorite.

If you are betting the total, the under is 8-2-1 in Army’s last 11 games on grass and 5-1 in their past 6 games against teams losing records. The trends reverse in Duke’s games, the Over is 6-0 in their past 6 September games and 4-0 on their past 4 games overall.

I’m not sold on the Blue Devils as favorites in this game. I’m going to take a shot on the Black Knights on the moneyline but if you take the point spread, you should win your bets.

NCAAF Betting Pick: Army Black Knights +6½
