College Football Game of the Week – #9 Miami Hurricanes at #11 Virginia Tech Hokies
September 25, 2009
Saturday September 26 – Lane Stadium – 3:30 PM ET
Line: Miami – 3 O/U 48
Miami: The Week That Was
The Miami Hurricanes made a second consecutive statement with a big win on national television against Georgia Tech. Jacory Harris was outstanding for a second straight week completing 20 of 25 passes for 270 yards and three touchdowns. Miami jumped out to a 24-3 lead and beat Georgia Tech 33-17 out gaining the Yellow Jackets 454-228. It marked the first time since 2004 Miami has won its first two ACC games.
Virginia Tech: The Week That Was
It was a dramatic game for Virginia Tech who trailed Nebraska in the final minutes. Quarterback Tyrod Taylor completed an 80 yard pass to Danny Coale setting up the game winning touchdown in a 16-15 victory. While they struggled for most of the afternoon, the Hokies won their 32nd straight home game against a non-conference opponent.
The Week That Is:
For the first time since 2005 Miami and Virginia Tech will play a game where both teams are ranked in the top 25. Miami showed on the road against Florida State their offense was for real and are averaging 35.5 points and 465 yards of offense this year in their impressive wins.
While the Hurricanes offense has been lighting it up, the Hokies have struggled this season through the air averaging just 148 passing yards per game. The money has been pouring in on Miami as the game was initially listed as a pick ‘em and now you have to lay three points with the road team. Miami pulled out the 16-14 win last year as a four point home dog so Virginia Tech may be in for some revenge.
The last time these teams squared off at Lane stadium in 2007 Virginia Tech hammered Miami by 30 points but this is clearly the best Hurricanes team we have seen in years. The Hokies will be looking to prove that the ACC still goes through Blacksburg but they’ll struggle to do it against the hot Hurricanes. Behind Harris and Javarris James, Miami will prove their offense is for real and will find a way to win its second big road game of the season.
Pick: Miami -3 over 48
