College Football Game Lines – Big-12 Unbeaten Teams Meet In Kansas

October 7, 2010

With non-conference play pretty much wrapping up with little to talk about, the SEC, Big-12, and ACC college football betting game lines featured plenty of crucial conference contests last weekend, a trend that will continue this Thursday when a pair of unbeaten teams from the Big-12 meet in Kansas.

The number-seven ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers will travel to Bill Snyder Stadium to take on the Kansas State Wildcats, a match up that may be a lot more lopsided than the records of the teams would indicate.

Nebraska Cornhuskers @ Kansas State Wildcats

Thursday October 6, 2010 – 7:30 PM ET

Bill Snyder Stadium, Manhattan, Kansas

Broadcast: ESPN

College Football Game Lines: Nebraska -12

Total: 51

Kansas State hasn’t starting a season undefeated through five games since 2003, and will face a tough task doing so in their final of three home contests that precede a two-week road trip, first to in-state Kansas, and then Baylor.

The Wildcats have already beaten a couple of formidable opponents in UCLA and Iowa State, the latter of which opened their Big-12 conference schedule, but will be in tough against the Cornhuskers.

College Football Game Lines: What Nebraska Will Have To Do To Win?

Quarterback Taylor Martinez has emerged as one of the best dual-threat signal-callers in the game over the past couple of weeks, something he will need to continue to do to earn an important road win in Nebraska’s Big 12 opener. Martinez has rushed for over 130 yards in three of the Cornhuskers’ four wins this season, including eight touchdowns, and has completed 60-percent of his passes.

Martinez is complemented perfectly by running back Roy Helu Jr., who has averaged seven yards per carry this season. While the focus seems to always be on the Nebraska offense, the defense will need to step up in a major way to shut down the Wildcats’ running game.

College Football Game Lines: What Kansas State Will Have To Do To Win?

This will be the toughest game of the season for the Cornhuskers, who don’t have another opponent on the schedule that is ranked in the top-20 overall. The key to this game will be how the Kansas State rushing attack fares against a mediocre Nebraska run defense, and when you factor in the fact that this game is being played in Kansas, the potential for an upset seems to be present.

The Wildcats rely on running back Daniel Thomas to make their offense go, and given that he is ranked fifth in the nation in total yardage and the team is 4-0, it appears to be working so far. Thomas will need to add a significant amount to his 628 yards on the ground this week for Kansas State to have a shot.

College Football Odds: Outlook & Pick

The Wildcats’ strengths in rushing the football play to Nebraska’s weakness on defense. Combined that with the fact that the Cornhuskers are playing in front of their home crowd, and there is no reason to believe this game can’t stay close.
