Doubts that Texas Tech would be a worthy competitor in the Big 12 this college football betting season swirled when Tommy Tuberville took over as the head coach of the Red Raiders this offseason.

College football bettors were concerned that Tuberville may employ a different offensive scheme that would hinder the Red Raiders potent passing attacking.
However, Texas Tech senior quarterback Taylor Potts showcased an emphatic aerial assault in their Week 1 matchup against SMU that was an indication that Tuberville welcomed the Red Raiders existing offensive playbook.
Potts threw for an impressive 359 yards and four touchdowns in the game, while not committing a single interception in his 53 pass attempts.
Wider receiver Lyle Leong was Potts favorite target in the game, connecting on 11 receptions for 142 yards and three scores.
Texas Tech benefited from four opportunistic turnovers to pull away from SMU in the third quarter but SMU would post ten fourth quarter points falling just short of a comeback. The Red Raiders hung on for a 35-27 victory.
The New Mexico Lobos meanwhile, had a tough season last year and they didn’t get off to a good start in 2010. The Lobos showed no indication that they have any capability to compete on either side of the ball this college football betting season.
After committing five turnovers on offense, New Mexico fell behind quickly to the Ducks and the halftime tally of 59-0 was insurmountable.
The Lobos defense wasn’t any better, allowing 35 first downs and an astounding 720 yards of total offense.
Marshall Mention: The Red Raiders are 33-6-2 all-time against New Mexico.
Expect the Red Raiders to come out firing early and easily pick apart the New Mexico defense. Some trick plays may be in the mix for Tuberville’s boys and college football betting experts should expect at least a 20-point lead for Texas Tech by the half.
College Football Betting Pick: Texas Tech Red Raiders -24.5
