College Football Betting Insider – The Best OVER Teams in the Country
September 17, 2009
Now that the college football betting season is heading into its third week of play, check out how BetOnline stacks up the best ‘over’ teams in the country through two weeks of action…
1: Purdue Boilermakers (2-0) The Boilers have had two games fly over the ‘total’ the L/2 weeks. If they had converted on their two-point conversion attempt in Eugene, the Oregon/Purdue game would’ve flown even further past the number. It was bad enough that the 38-36 victory was already 17 points beyond the closing ‘total’. A Northern Illinois team that averages 30.5 points per game is up next, so the points could be flying on the scoreboard once again this weekend.
Up Next: Home vs. Northern Illinois
2: California Golden Bears (2-0) What makes Cal’s 2-0 record for ‘over’ bettors so impressive is the fact that the Golden Bears have only allowed a total of 20 points in two games on the season. Between QB Kevin Riley’s five touchdown passes and RB Jahvid Best’s 281 yards on just 27 overall carries, there’s been no stopping the Bears. The Golden Gophers probably won’t have much more success.
Up Next: Away @ Minnesota
3: Auburn Tigers (2-0) A year after having an offense that couldn’t get out of its own way, Auburn has apparently begun to figure out how to move the football under new HC Gene Chizik. Only the Gators average more yards per game in the SEC than the Tigers do. All of a sudden, this match-up against the Mountaineers looks like it could be a barnburner.
Up Next: Home vs. West Virginia
4: Cincinnati Bearcats (2-0) In both of their first two games, the Bearcats have covered the ‘over’ by themselves, scoring 47 against Rutgers (over/under 46.5) and 70 against Southeast Missouri State (over/under 60). After throwing for 2,407 yards and 19 touchdowns a year ago, QB Tony Pike looks like he’s poised to have an incredible ’09 season.
Up Next: Away @ Oregon State
5: Toledo Rockets (2-0) So far this season, the oddsmakers have had a terrible time judging how many points will be scored in the average Toledo game. After posting ‘totals’ of 46.5 against Purdue and 55 against Colorado and getting burned by 36.5 points and 37 points respectively, what can they reasonably do when the Rockets take on a stout Ohio State defense?
Up Next: Home vs. Ohio State
6: UAB Blazers (2-0) The Blazers are going to be a fun team to watch this season with QB Joe Webb running the show. So far this year, Webb has racked up 738 yards of all-purpose offense. The problem is that his defense has allowed 29.5 points per game.
Up Next: Away @ Troy
7: Clemson Tigers (2-0) Clemson may not be the first team that you think of when you start thinking about the best ‘over’ teams in the country, but since HC Dabo Sweeney took over, the Tigers are 5-3 for ‘over’ bettors. That’s a far cry from the 0-5 they were last season under HC Tommy Bowden.
Up Next: Home vs. Boston College
8: Washington Huskies (2-0) Give it up for HC Steve Sarkisian. The Huskies didn’t exceed the 28-point mark once last season, and they only reached 20 points twice. So far this season, they’ve reached that 20-point plateau in both of their games, and the 42-point outburst against Idaho was the most points that U-Dub scored in a game since the first game of the ’07 season.
Up Next: Home vs. USC
And the rest…
9: Maryland Terrapins (2-0)
10: Virginia Tech Hokies (2-0)
11: Rice Owls (2-0)
12: Alabama Crimson Tide (2-0)
13: Florida Gators (1-0)
14: Houston Cougars (1-0)
15: West Virginia Mountaineers (1-0)
