College Football Betting: How Much Can the Longhorns Win
September 8, 2009
Successful football betting doesn’t just require looking for that special team to wager or studying stats. It requires finding that special team and then deciding what wager being offered in the BetOnline online sportsbook is the best wager to make.
In order words, successful football betting depends on looking at the overall team in question and then asking the question, “When looking at this team, should I concentrate on looking to bet this team to cover spreads? Or, should concentrate on this team and the overs and unders?”
The question has to be asked no matter whether the team is destined to win the BCS Championship, like the Texas Longhorns are, or not. Texas is my pick to win the BCS Championship in 2009, but as far as football betting is concerned, I’m not exactly sure if they are the team that I will be looking to bet each and every week. This is especially true after the Longhorns allowed Louisiana-Monroe to put up 20 points on them. Yes, Texas scored 56, and did cover against the spread, but the Longhorns had to put up 14 points in the fourth quarter to do so.
What it implies is that successful football betting on the Longhorns might have more to do with putting faith in their offense and going with the overs in most games then trying to bet this team to cover spreads.
Then again, Texas plays in a conference, the Big 12, where teams figure to put up a lot of points. What does that mean? Ah! Gamblers will rejoice after reading what I believe it means, but before I get into that, let’s just concentrate on the Longhorns.
The offense is going to be spectacular in 2009. This is obviously true because Colt McCoy, who was sensational in 2008 under center, returns and so does a lot of his weapons. Not only that, but McCoy keeps his 2008 offensive line virtually intact. With tons of time in the backfield. McCoy figures to be even more effective in 2009 which means that the Longhorns put up even more points.
The defense will be good in non-conference games. In conference games, the defense figures to give up points because the Big 12 is chockfull of powerful offenses. Kansas put up 49 in their first game this past Saturday. Nebraska put up 49 as well. Oklahoma State put up 24 against a top SEC team, the Georgia Bulldogs. What does this mean? It means that Texas figures to be in a lot of shoot-outs in 2009.
As far as football betting is concerned, that’s a good thing because the Texas Longhorns could end up being the best team in NCAA on which to wager. Why? Think about it. Successful football betting requires taking a team and understanding which wager to make. With the Texas Longhorns there are two successful wagers to make, betting on the overs in games and betting on the Longhorns to cover spreads.
Texas not only figures to be a team to bet on against the spread but they also figure to be a team on which to bet the overs. Can anybody say parlay?
That makes the Texas Longhorns the epitome of successful football betting in 2009. Mark my words, friends. It’s going to happen!
