College Football Betting – Nebraska Gets Monster Spread Against Hilltoppers
September 4, 2010
The Nebraska Cornhuskers want to end their tenure in the Big 12 as a champion, and they’re getting a gimme matchup against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers to give their high hopes a great start. I mean, just look at that monster college football line! While it’s obvious that the Cornhuskers will miss Ndamukong Suh on their defensive line, they’re still worthy of being a top-10 team in the country.
Bo Pelini, however, is the most important factor in Nebraska. As head coach of the Big 12 stalwart, Pelini has gone 20-8 SU, but none of that will matter unless Nebraska can make good on their +200 odds to win the Big 12 Conference. Winning their first national title since 1997 would also help sooth the angst in Nebraska.

Zac Lee is the starting quarterback this season after a 2009 season where he produced 2,143 yards and 14 touchdowns with 10 interceptions. Off-season elbow surgery has slowed his progress, and healthy competition from redshirt freshman Taylor Martinez has hopefully made him better.

Suh will be surely be missed on the defensive front. Nebraska was one of the best defensive teams in the entire nation last season with Suh erupting all over Big 12 opponents. You can’t envision Nebraska repeating their 44.0 sack season last year without Suh, but the offense should do a lot to off-set his departure.
Roy Helu Jr. led Nebraska with 1,147 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns last year while dealing with a shoulder injury. Fully healthy and raring to prove himself to NFL scout, Helu will be due for a breakout season as long as Nebraska keeps producing wins.
Nebraska went 6-1 SU in their last 7 games with a loss to Texas in a hard fought Big 12 Championship game as their only blemish. Frankly, considering how high powered Texas was, that’s nothing to be ashamed off. Nebraska is also 9-3 SU in their last 12 games at home and Western Kentucky hasn’t won a game on the road in five attempts.
A daunting football line may await you this weekend as #8 Nebraska tries to improve their standing in the poll, but I wouldn’t be worried. A slew of easy matchups favor Nebraska early on in the season, but an October 16th matchup against Texas will define whether or not Nebraska when they put this season of football on the line.
