College Bowls: Four Big Games This Weekend in the Build Up to January 1st
There are four college bowl games on tap this weekend, three on Saturday and one on Sunday, for sports betting fans to make online college football bets on!
The three games on Saturday are actually much more interesting than the Sunday match-up, but I’ll discuss all four. Football betting fans should be able to hit one of these this weekend.
Let’s get to it!
December 27th College Football Bowl Games
Meineke Car Care Bowl
West Virginia Mountaineers vs. North Carolina Tar Heels
Kick-off: 1:00 pm est.
Analysis: West Virginia was ranked in the top ten when the season started, but things didn’t go the Mountaineers way and before they knew it, they weren’t even ranked. North Carolina was a huge surprise in the ACC. The Mountaineers are only 4 and 7 against the spread this season while North Carolina is 6 and 5. The Mountaineers are listed as a 1 ½ point favorite in the BetOnline online sportsbook but North Carolina appears to have played a tougher schedule…at least on paper. I’ve been getting killed making these money-line bets so far during this bowl season, but I have to take a stab again. The Tar Heels are just as good as West Virginia and they are going off at even money in the BetOnline online sportsbook. I’m going with North Carolina.
Pick: North Carolina to win straight-up at even money in the BetOnline online sportsbook.
Champs Sports Bowl
Wisconsin Badgers vs. Florida State Seminoles
Kick-off: 4:30 pm est.
Analysis: This is a classic battle between a Big-Ten powerhouse in Wisconsin and an ACC powerhouse in Florida State. Both schools played below expectations this year but Wisconsin has to be considered the bigger disappointment. Still, the Seminoles are giving up a lot of points, 5 ½ in the BetOnline online sportsbook, after losing 45 to 15 to Florida and losing to Wake Forest this season. Wisconsin is coming into this off of a three game winning streak and they should have beaten Michigan, Ohio State and Michigan State. Win those three games and they could be in a BCS Bowl next weekend. Oh, well. The Seminoles have the edge in terms of talent, but I have to take the Badgers and the points because toughness usually wins out in this game and I truly believe that the Badgers are a tougher team than the Seminoles.
Pick: Wisconsin Badgers to beat the 5 ½ point BetOnline online wagering spread.
Emerald Bowl
Miami Florida Hurricanes vs. California Golden Bears
Kick-off: 8:00 pm est.
Analysis: Cal goes into this game as an 8 point football betting favorite in the BetOnline online sportsbook. The Hurricanes played a decent schedule this year and there’s no doubt that coach Randy Shannon is building a program in Miami but the Hurricanes don’t appear to have the experience to stick with the Golden Bears. The loss against North Carolina State in their last game is particularly worrisome since the Hurricanes should have beaten the Wolf Pack easily. Cal, as always, played well enough to finish near the top of the Pac-10. The trends say that the Bears cover the spread easily and I can’t argue.
Pick: California Golden Bears to cover the 8 point BetOnline online betting spread.
Dec. 28th College Football Games
Independence Bowl
Northern Illinois Huskies vs. Louisiana Tech Bulldogs
Kick-off: 8:00 pm est.
Analysis: This game is listed as a pick in the BetOnline online sportsbook and for good reason. The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs have lost five games and the Northern Illinois Huskies have lost six games. Neither team is very good against the spread. Neither team has the edge in terms of trends. The only thing that makes sense to me is to take the “home” team. In that case, it’s the Bulldogs, right? They do play in Louisiana and this game is in Shreveport. I’m going with the Bulldogs because there’s nothing in the trends that say either team has an advantage.
Pick: Louisiana Tech Bulldogs straight-up at – 110 in the BetOnline online sportsbook.
Good Luck!
