College Basketball Sportsbook – #17 ‘Cuse, #2 KU, #9 Jimmer Cougars on Saturday
February 5, 2011
Saturday is a huge, huge day in the college basketball betting sports book. I can’t possibly handicap all of the games in one piece. So, I’m breaking it out some.
Below, I take a look at 3 more big Saturday games involving Top 25 teams.
The #17 Syracuse Orange battle South Florida, #2 Kansas takes on Nebraska, and #9 BYU hosts the tough UNLV Runnin’ Rebels.

Feb. 5th– NCAA BB Games – Afternoon
#17 Syracuse Orange (19-4) at South Florida Bulls (8-15)
Where: USF Dome, Tampa, Florida
When: 2:00 pm EST
Fair Basketball Odds: Syracuse -13 ½
Analysis: The ‘Cuse finally broke their 4 games losing streak with an NCAA moneyline odds upset over the Connecticut Huskies, 66 to 58, on Feb. 2nd. The ‘Cuse was absolutely terrific in that game, limiting UConn to 36.2% from the field and 34.8% from behind the 3-point line. The Orange takes on arguably the worst team in the Big East in South Florida on Saturday. The Bulls have gone 5 and 1 against the spread in their last 6 games including covering ATS versus Cincinnati, Providence twice, West Virginia and DePaul. None of those teams save for maybe West Virginia is as talented as Syracuse, though. I’ve got to back the Orange if the odds are fair.
#2 Kansas Jayhawks (21-1) at Nebraska Cornhuskers (15-6)
Where: Bob Devaney Sports Center, Lincoln, Nebraska
When: 4:00 pm EST
Fair Basketball Odds: Nebraska +14 ½
Analysis: This is a tougher game to handicap than it actually looks on paper. The college basketball line trends are all over the place in this one. Nebraska is 4 and 1 ATS in their last 5 games at home and 6-2-1 against the spread in their last 9 games versus a team with a road winning percentage above .600. Kansas is 5-0-1 against the spread in the last 6 meetings between these two in Nebraska. Kansas has covered a 10 point spread and a 13 point spread in their last 2 games. Maybe, they bounce some in this contest and Nebraska keeps it under 15 points. Maybe…
UNLV Runnin’ Rebels (17-5) at #9 Brigham Young (15-6)
Where: Marriott Center, Provo, Utah
When: 4:00 pm EST
Fair Basketball Odds: BYU -5 ½
Analysis: Jimmer only had 26 versus Wyoming in BYU’s 69 to 62 victory. Since the Cougars were -14 point home NCAA odds favorites, the win was a bit of a let down for us Jimmerites. Still, the man with the stunning stroke faces a team on Saturday that he lit up for 39 points, 6 boards and 5 assists on January 5th. Hoops handicappers should expect JF to do almost the same thing on Saturday. UNLV doesn’t play the kind of defense designed to take away Jimmer’s shot. He’ll make the Rebels pay for it on Feb. 5th and BYU should beat UNLV at around the same score that they beat them at last time, 89 to 77.
