#21 Arizona Wildcats (18-4 SU, 11-7 ATS) at Stanford Cardinal (11-9 SU, 8-10 ATS)
Live at Maples Pavilion
Palo Alto, CA
Thursday, February 3 — 9 PM ET

College Basketball Odds:
Arizona  -3
Stanford  +3

Here are some of the trends that relate to the college basketball odds on this game:

·       Arizona has won six of its last seven games SU
·       Arizona has covered two of its last seven games
·       Arizona has played five of its last seven games OVER the total
·       Stanford has lost four of its last five games SU
·       Stanford has covered one of its last five games
·       Stanford has played seven of its last eight games UNDER the total
·       Stanford has won six of its last eight home games SU
·       Stanford has played four of its last six home games UNDER the total

Stanford is a team that has struggled to find itself offensively. Since Pac-10 play began, the Cardinal has suffered only one real beating (at the hands of USC) but this team went seven straight games without reaching 60 points before "breaking out" with 70 in Saturday’s win over Oregon State. Stanford shoots just 41.6% and isn’t any kind of a real threat from beyond the three-point arc.

Arizona has just come off a pair of games against the Los Angeles schools in which it shot 52% and 61% and won both games in the college basketball odds. This performance has elevated them into the Associated Press Top 25 and into a tie with Washington atop the Pac-10.

These are the head-to-head trends that are involved with college basketball odds on this matchup:

·       Arizona has won four of the last five meetings SU
·       Eleven of the last 16 meetings have gone OVER the total
·       Arizona has covered four of the last six meetings as the road team
·       Arizona has had the shooting edge in four of the last five meetings
·       Arizona has had the rebounding edge in each of the last four meetings

One of the things that Arizona has done to improve its fortunes in the college basketball odds is find another viable scoring outlet. Derrick Williams is flat-out one of the best players in the conference, averaging just under 20 points a game. Now guard Lamont Jones is starting to assert himself as a scorer, with 17 points in each of those two games. this is important, because they can’t let opponents continue to concentrate on bottling up Williams.

When these teams met up on January 9, Arizona came away with a 67-57 victory where freshman forward Anthony Brown was not a factor for Stanford (one for seven from field). But Brown, who had been putting up some decent numbers off the bench, had 21 points and eight rebounds against Oregon State as Johnny Dawkins gave him his first start. Maybe Brown provides the boost the offense needs, but we’d have to see more. We’re going to lay the points with Arizona at a very reasonable number in the college basketball odds.

JAY’S PLAY:  ARIZONA -3 **
