It might seem like the Blue Devils and Cavaliers are separated by the Gulf of Mexico, but we’re not so sure that their differences are all that great when you factor in a 14.5 point cushion given to the hosts in this one.

The big problem that Duke has is covering this type of a number. For starters, Coach K and company are always given these types of huge numbers to deal with, simply because they’re Duke.

Unfortunately, the Blue Devils know that they put together a fantastic, well rounded effort against the Miami Hurricanes over the weekend, getting at least nine points from all five starters, but that won’t be good enough to knock off this number against the Cavvies on Wednesday night for our college basketball expert picks.

It is going to take a truly exceptional effort by at least one of, if not both of Kyle Singler and Nolan Smith to beat the NCAA basketball odds in this one. It’s not that we haven’t seen this script somewhere before, as we know that these two are both capable of scoring 25+ on the same night.

However, against Virginia’s defense, this all could be very tough. This team really just takes the air out of the basketball and slows you down, trying to keep the score close to the very end.

It hasn’t proven all that effective in winning games, but college basketball expert picks have been easy to make on UVA in ACC play, knowing that it is going to be an underdog, usually of huge proportions more often than not.

The offensive talent isn’t there, and many teams hold the Cavaliers to 60 points or less on a regular basis. However, when you keep so many teams in the high 60s and low 70s, it’s only going to take scoring around 60 points to cover a lot of numbers. Heck, they have an outright win over the Clemson Tigers without scoring 50 points this year already!

UVA has the best record for NCAA basketball betting ACC fans at 13-6 ATS this year, and we tend to think that that is only going to grow come Wednesday night.
