College Basketball Betting – Notre Dame Is This Weekend’s Lock
March 5, 2011
College Basketball Betting season is coming to a close, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t still time to get some great wagers in!
No game this weekend will be more important than the one in Storrs, CT, where the Connecticut Huskies and Notre Dame Fighting Irish will be playing for Big East and NCAA Tournament seeding.
No. 7 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (24-5 SU, 14-10 ATS) at No. 16 Connecticut Huskies (21-8 SU, 13-10 ATS)
Saturday, March 5: 2:00 p.m. ESPN
Starting with the Irish, Mike Brey’s club is in the midst of a banner 2011 season, as in Monday’s win they clinched a first round bye in the Big East Tournament. With a win here, and a Pitt loss this weekend, the Irish would split the Big East title with the Panthers.
Of course it won’t be easy, as UConn is one of the toughest College Basketball Betting opponents in the country, thanks in large part to their point guard Kemba Walker. By now you all know the story of Walker’s year, as he threw his hat into the National Player of the Year discussion with a handful of big games early in the season. While he has slowed down a bit lately, Walker is still averaging just under 23 points per game, which ranks him in the Top 10 nationally.
The problem for the Huskies is that beyond Walker, they haven’t always gotten consistent contributions from everyone else. Amongst Walker’s teammates, Alex Oriahki is averaging over 10 points per game, and Jeremy Lamb has emerged as the favorite for the Big East Newcomer of the Year award. The freshman from Georgia is averaging just under 10 points per game, and is coming off a 17 point effort in Saturday’s win over Cincinnati.
Still, what this College Basketball Betting matchup comes down to is the intangibles, and right now, the edge has to go to a Notre Dame club with five senior starters. The Irish have won nine of their last 10 games straight up, and gone 7-3 against the spread in that stretch as well.
That was certainly the case in their most recent win Monday, as Notre Dame beat up and beat down Villanova 93-72 in South Bend. The Irish were led by their seniors, Ben Hansbrough and Tim Abromaitis in specific. The two had a Senior Night which had to be seen to be believed, combining 60 points and 14 assists, while making 16 of 26 three-point attempts. Wow!
Simply put, this Irish team is experienced and talented, and if Monday night proved anything, it’s that they’re playing their best basketball of the season. Even on the road, they’re simply going to find a way to win here, which why we’re making Notre Dame our College Basketball Betting lock of the weekend!
