College Basketball Betting – Bet on Conference Title Matchups Tonight

March 8, 2011

College basketball betting fans are ready for the season showdown of the Colonial Athletic Association, as the Old Dominion Monarchs face off against the Virginia Commonwealth Rams tonight at 7 PM ET for the conference title.  The Monarchs come into this matchup as the favorite, with a 26-6 record on the season.  The Rams, on the other hand, finished the regular season with a record of 23-10.

In the college basketball betting odds for this game, the Monarchs are a 4.5-point favorite, with the total on the game posted at 124.5 points.

Basketball Betting Odds: Virginia Commonwealth +4.5 Old Dominion -4.5, Total 124.5

These two teams have met twice already this season, as each team notched one win.  Their strong rivalry and the splitting of these games set the betting line on this game to a mere 4.5 points.  But this matchup is for all the marbles, as the earlier wins and losses are now meaningless.

The teams appear fairly evenly matched, as both the Rams and the Monarchs rely on their respective solid forwards. Senior Jamie Skeen leads the Rams with points, rebounds, and blocks while the senior forward for Old Dominion, Frank Hassell, also carries his teams in the points and rebounds categories.  These two players should pit well against each other, as the game may turn into a defensive broil.

Virginia Commonwealth knocked off top-ranked George Mason to reach the finals by slapping the No. 1 seed with its worst loss of the season. Old Dominion entered the tournament with the second seed, and won its trip to the finals on the heels of Hassell’s hot performance against Hofstra.

Old Dominion may have been the better team statistically all year long, but the Rams are on fire now.  Take Virginia Commonwealth, as Old Dominion will likely struggle to cover the spread.

Gonzaga (23-9) vs. St. Mary’s (24-7)

Monday, March 7 – 9:00 PM ET

Fighting for an automatic bid to the 2011 NCAA tournament, the St. Mary’s Gaels face the Gonzaga Bulldogs tonight for the title in the West Coast Conference.  These two teams are the top in their conference and both are hoping to qualify for the tournament regardless of tonight’s outcome.  However, an automatic bid is much less stressful, right?

In the college basketball betting odds for this game, the Bulldogs are a 1-point favorite, with the total on the game posted at 144.5 points.

The Gaels reached the finals game by parading over Santa Clara, while Gonzaga frantically survived the San Francisco Dons. Each team took away one victory from the other during their regular season games, as both matchups were tough and down to the wire.

In tonight’s game, college basketball betting fans will watch to see if Gonzaga’s Marquise Carter can show again why he was voted the WCC Newcomer of the Year. Many sports analysts believe that St. Mary’s may have already secured their spot in the tournament regardless of tonight’s outcome, due to their victory of St. John’s.  However, when betting a spread of one point, consider Gonzaga’s resiliency to reach the Big Dance as well as their resiliency to pull away with the victory in the semi-final game despite a pitiful second-half performance.  Take the Bulldogs to win this one and the conference title.
