College Basketball Analysis Big 12 Power Poll

January 5, 2009

1: Kansas Jayhawks (5-2 ATS, 10-3 SU) (LW: 2) The Jayhawks cruised past the Great Danes 79-43 to start the week, but the exclamation point came in the form of a 92-85 win over Tennessee this past weekend. That’s eight straight covers at Allen Fieldhouse for KU, and that sports betting streak will be on the line this week against the Saints.

This Week: Home vs. Siena

2: Baylor Bears (4-2 ATS, 12-2 SU) (LW: 1) The six-game winning streak for the Bears came to a crashing halt last week with an 85-84 loss to South Carolina as double-digit home favorites. After eight days off, Texas Tech comes to town for the start of Big XII play. Baylor is averaging 87.8 points per game in Waco.

This Week: Home vs. Texas Tech

3: Texas Longhorns (6-4 ATS, 11-2 SU) (LW: 4) App State was no match for the Longhorns in their first game since Christmas. The 78-43 win was more than enough to cover the 22.5-point spread, but now the battle-tested Horns will head to Arkansas, a place they won 80-76 in their last meeting two years ago.

This Week: Away @ Arkansas

4: Texas A&M Aggies (4-3 ATS, 13-1 SU) (LW: 5) Sports betting aficionados picked up their third win in the L/4 Aggies games when A&M took out Rice 72-60 on New Year’s Eve. The Aggies are now 2-0 SU and ATS away from College Station this year, and will put that mark on the line immediately in Big XII action.

This Week: Home vs. North Dakota, Away @ Oklahoma State

5: Oklahoma Sooners (5-5 ATS, 13-1 SU) (LW: 3) It was a rough week to be a Sooner in Arkansas. The Razorbacks hammered OU 96-88, handing out its first loss of the season. Oklahoma responded with a 93-62 win over Coppin State, and will probably take out some more frustration against sub-par competition throughout this week’s slate.

This Week: Home vs. Maryland Eastern Shore, Away @ Kansas State

6: Missouri Tigers (4-4 ATS, 12-2 SU) (LW: 6) Missouri narrowly missed covering the eight-point spread against Georgia this week, but have now rolled off three wins since losing to Illinois right before Christmas. Still, that makes it three straight losses for Tigers bettors, a betting trend they’ll hope to reverse next week when their Big XII schedule kicks in.

This Week: Home vs. Coppin State, Away @ Nebraska

7: Iowa State Cyclones (5-5 ATS, 10-4 SU) (LW: 7) Iowa State hasn’t had much in the way of competition of late, taking out both Mercer and SIU-Edwards with ease. Houston Baptist should be another pushover, but a trip into Austin will be a much tougher test. The good news for sports bettors is that ISU has covered two of its L/3 away from home.

This Week: Home vs. Houston Baptist, Away @ Texas

8: Kansas State Wildcats (3-3-1 ATS, 10-3 SU) (LW: 8) In its L/5 home games, K-State has outscored its opponents by an average of 31.0 points per game. Those numbers should improve against Chicago State, but don’t expect to see similar results against Oklahoma.

This Week: Home vs. Chicago State, Home vs. Oklahoma

And the rest…

9: Nebraska Cornhuskers (2-3 ATS, 9-3 SU) (LW: 10)

10: Oklahoma State Cowboys (3-4-1 ATS, 10-3 SU) (LW: 11)

11: Colorado Buffaloes (3-6 ATS, 7-5 SU) (LW: 9)

12: Texas Tech Red Raiders (2-4-1 ATS, 10-4 SU) (LW: 12)
