Clemson is the Betting College Football Fave Saturday vs. North Carolina State

November 6, 2010

The Clemson Tigers are the betting college football favorites when they host the North Carolina State Wolfpack this Saturday, Nov. 6th.

The Wolfpack has had some big ups and downs this season. The “ups” for them were victories both straight up and against the spread versus Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Boston College and Florida State. The “downs” for them were losses and non-covers versus the Virginia Tech Hokies and the East Carolina Pirates.

Now, NC State travels to South Carolina to take on Clemson, a team that spanked them 43 to 23 in 2009.

NCAAF Betting Lines

NC State Wolfpack +3 ½ -110 O 50 ½ -110
Clemson Tigers -3 ½ -110 U 50 ½ -110

The betting college football trends favor under the total in this game.

  • The Under is 5-2-1 in the NC State Wolfpack’s last 8 games as a road underdog of 3 ½ to 10 points.
  • The Under is 4 and 0 in the Clemon Tigers’ last 4 games.
  • The Under is 4 and 1 in the Clemson Tigers’ last 5 games on grass.
  • The Under is 5 and 0 in the Clemson Tigers’ last 5 games after allowing less than 170 yards passing in their previous game.

Betting under the total also happens to be the best wager to make in this game. Although I do feel that Clemson should be able to cover the 3 ½ point spread against a North Carolina State team coming off of a huge victory over Florida State, I don’t feel that backing Clemson is the best betting college football wager to make.

Clemson’s D has definitely put the clamps down on teams late. Since giving up 30 points to Miami, Clemson has given up 21 to North Carolina, 7 to Maryland, 13 to Georgia Tech and 16 to Boston College.

The under is 2 and 6 on the season when Clemson hits the field and the average total in Clemson games this season has been 45.9 points.

So, the extra 5.1 points should work in Clemson’s under favoring ways. North Carolina State can definitely score, they average 35 points per game, but they haven’t faced a really good defense like Clemson’s yet this season and when it comes to the totals, the over/under is 4 and 4 in the Wolfpack’s 8 games in 2010.

Clemson knows how to win football games by keeping a team’s offense from getting into the end zone too many times in a game. The Tigers average only 178 yards passing per game yet they score 28 points per game.

What it means is that they are balanced and most likely will employ their running game versus the Wolfpack because NC State gives up 152 yards on the ground per game.

All of the factors in this one point to this contest going under. The Clemson Tigers have held their last 3 opponents to a combined 36 points. North Carolina State will score against the Tigers, but I don’t believe that what they score, combined with what Clemson puts on the board, will be enough for this game to go over.

I believe under the total of 50 ½ is the betting college football wager to make when the Wolfpack and Tigers claw it out on Nov. 6th.
