Chicago White Sox vs. Kansas City Royals – Take the OVER

May 6, 2009

Chicago White Sox vs. Kansas City Royals 8:10 ET

Baseball betting action at BetOnline Sportsbook heats up Tuesday evening at Kaufmann Stadium when the Chicago White Sox (12-13 -$125) close out its six-game road trip with the finale of its short-two game series with the streaking Kansas City Royals (15-11 +$605). The Palehose losing streak was extended to three in a row last night after falling to Zach Greinke and the Royals 3-0. In two games facing Greinke this season, Chicago is 0-2 and has managed just nine hits and no runs.

Last night’s defeat dropped Chicago under the .500 mark as a visitor where they’ve made MLB bettors a measly $6 on the year. As for KC, it has now rattled off three straight victories and sits atop the AL Central Division 1.5-games in front of the Detroit Tigers. Overall, the Royals are the 6th best baseball bet in the league after making its sports betting backers upwards of $600 throughout their first 26 games played. As a host, KC sits two-games over .500 (8-6), and has made sports bettors a shade less than $200 on the year. Since dropping their season opener in the late innings against the White Sox, KC has won the next three to take a 3-1 season series advantage.

Kyle Davies and the Royals currently sit as -135 home favorites over Gavin Floyd and the White Sox according to BetOnline MLB odds for the second and final game of this short series; the ‘total’ has been pegged at 9.5-runs.

Gavin Floyd labored in his second straight start against the Seattle Mariners his last time out. He surrendered 10 hits and threw 110 pitches through just six innings of work, but allowed his club to pick up the win by giving up just three earned runs. In his last two starts, Floyd has thrown 204 pitches, allowed 19 hits, eight earned runs, and boasts a poor K/BB ratio of just 8/7. Certainly not the form Chicago brass expected of him after inking him to a big off-season deal. He boasts a career 3.62 ERA and 1.37 WHIP against Kansas City, but owns a 1-4 record and was outdueled by Zach Greinke in his first outing against the Royals this season.

After getting blown up for eight hits and seven earned runs against the Detroit Tigers in his previous outing, Kyle Davies settled down in his next start against the Toronto Blue Jays. The Royals won the game 8-6, but Davies exited the game with an 8-3 lead. Overall, he’s 2-1 on the year with a 4.85 ERA and 1.38 WHIP, but he’s been bad at Kauffman Stadium where he owns a bloated 7.02 ERA allowing 22 hits and 13 earned runs. He’s 2-2 with a 4.46 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in six career starts against the White Sox; KC won his lone start against them the first week of the season when he limited the Palehose to just three hits and no earned runs through seven solid innings of work.

Neither of tonight’s starters enters the finale of this series in top form. With both offenses stymied last night, I’m expecting some runs to be put on the board this evening. The ‘over’ is a combined 8-2 in Floyd & Davies 10 combined starts this season, and HP Ump Jerry Crawford’s tight strike zone has produced four high scoring games in the five he’s called behind the dish this season.

Rose’s Recommendation: 3* Chicago/Kansas City Over 9.5 +105

(Rating Scale: 1* – 5*)
