Chicago Bulls Visit Nets Tonight To Pad Playoff Hopes

April 9, 2010

After dealing with so many injuries throughout the second half of the season, the Chicago Bulls have finally found their playoff groove with no time to spare. Taking advantage of LeBron James’ getting the night off, the Bulls beat the league leading Cavaliers 109-108 and moved in to a tie with the Toronto Raptors for the final spot in the Eastern Conference Playoffs. On Sunday, they’ll play the Raptors, but tonight they get a crack at the worst NBA betting team in the entire league.

Aside from Derrick Rose, the guy that the Bulls absolutely need running the floor (and his mouth) is Joakim Noah. A fearless hardwood warrior, Noah has come back from injury to average 11.6 points and 12.0 rebounds in the last five games. The Bulls in turn have responded to the boundless energy of Noah by going 3-2 ATS in their past 5 games.

Part of what makes Chicago such a good road team, and a dangerous playoff contender, is the amount of youthful swagger that Derrick Rose and Noah bring to the roster. Guys like Luol Deng and Kirk Hinrich fall in to a tidy rhythm and begin shooting the ball extremely effectively. On the road, the Bulls are 5-0 ATS and they’re also 5-2 SU/ATS when playing the woeful Nets.

Chicago Bulls (38-40) vs. New Jersey Nets (11-67)
Friday, April 9th — Izod Center — 8:00pm EST
NBA Betting Line: Chicago -5.5 (196)

And while the Chicago Bulls have an NBA playoff betting spot to fight for, the Nets are just waiting for that crazy Russian Billionaire to come around and start changing everything with the organization. While the Nets are a strong 4-1 ATS in their past 5 games at home, I can’t  take them seriously in this matchup.

They’re simply waiting for the season to end, probably expecting to get screwed out of John Wall somehow in the NBA draft and then just waiting to see what the communist version of Mark Cuban is going to do with his unlimited fortunes in the NBA scene. The Nets are 5-5 SU/ATS when playing the Bulls in the past 10 games, but a lot of that was due to injury on the part of the Bulls.

With everyone back in the fold, and with a lot of ground to catch up on, the Bulls will slam the pedal to the floor and steamroll the Nets as they prepare for a showdown with Toronto.
