Chicago at Washington – Bulls need the Points

March 23, 2009

Seeking Playoff Berth, Bulls Visit Weary Wizards

The Chicago Bulls (32-38 SU, 36-33-1 ATS, 39-30-1 O/U) and Washington Wizards (16-55 SU, 25-44-2 ATS, 34-35-2 O/U) will both be trying to pick up victory for BetOnline NBA betting fans when they battle at the Verizon Center tonight.

The Bulls had their three-game winning streak snapped in its 117-109 to the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday, failing to cover the spread as 4-point home underdogs while the 226 combined points played Over the O/U total of 211.5 points.

Veteran small forward John Salmons scored a game-high 30 points while rookie point guard Derrick Rose added 25 in the loss.

The Wizards lost their fourth start game on Saturday, falling to the Phoenix Suns 128-96 and failing to cover the spread in the BetOnline Sportsbook as 14.5-point road underdogs while the game’s 224 combined points checked in Under the posted over/under total of 232.5 points.

Veteran forward Antawn Jamison led the Wizards with 25 points and eight rebounds.

Here is a look at tonight’s key trends, followed by my in-depth analysis and NBA Free Picks.

  • The total has gone UNDER in 8 of Chicago’s last 9 games when playing Washington
  • Chicago is 4-1 ATS in its last 5 games
  • The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Chicago’s last 5 games when playing on the road against Washington
  • The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Chicago’s last 6 games on the road
  • The total has gone UNDER in 8 of Washington’s last 9 games when playing Chicago
  • Washington is 14-3 SU in its last 17 games when playing at home against Chicago
  • Washington is 4-1 ATS in its last 5 games when playing Chicago
  • The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Washington’s last 5 games when playing at home against Chicago

NBA Odds:

  • Chicago Bulls -6 -110
  • Washington Wizards +6 -110
  • Over 210 -110
  • Under 210 -110

Analysis: Despite losing four consecutive games and six of their last seven, I like the Washington Wizards to somehow manage to cover the spread in this contest against a Chicago Bulls team that is in a fight for a postseason appearance.

The Wizards have managed to cover the spread in three of four against Chicago and should be able to cover again at home despite the fact that I think they will lose this contest.

While the Under has come out in two straight and seven of the last eight meetings between these two teams, I like the Over tonight with both teams scoring the ball very well recently.

NBA Free Picks: Over 210 Total Points/Wizards +6 Points
